1 yr post burst fracture

Almost exactly 1 year ago I was in an accident. I suffered many injuries and was life flighted to a hospital to be treated for the worst which turned out to be a burst fracture of my L3. They ended up doing an emergency fusion surgery and, needless to say, I haven't been the same since. In August I had an FCE which determined that I can not lift any more than 15-20 lbs in an occasional setting, can not tolerate more than 3 minutes of forward flexed position and can not sit, stand or walk for more than 30 minutes at a time. I take a 25 and 12 mcg/hr fentanyl patches, 3600 mg of neurontin daily and 15 mg of mobic daily and yet I am still being deemed not disabled and have been denied ssdi. What else can I possibly do and how many more hoops must I possibly have to go through? We are currently barely surviving on my wife's salary as a cook and can't keep on this current path so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

gosh sorry to hear about your situation. My sympathies go out to you.
What country are you in? It sounds like you a needing income support. Have you explored avenues for that?
  • All the people walking about who are abusing the disability benefits system and people with real, serious problems get nothing. It really makes my blood boil....can you get a solicitor to help you claim?

  • I'm in the U.S. and yes, I've applied for help anywhere that I could possibly get it. I was able to get my healthcare cover through the assistance office and we were able to get food stamp . Its just not enough considering all the rest of our bills and the fact that we have 6 kids here between my wife a I. I do have a disability firm helping mevwith my case but I just found out that it could take up to 18 months to get my appeal hearing! It just sucks, as if the pain, discomfort and inability to provide for my family weren't enough! Is the depression from going through all of this typical also and should I seek help for that as well? I just find it hard to even get up to start my day sometimes because I used to be in my prime at 37 and was the sole provider for our family and now I can barely even stand to give our babies a bath let alone play with all the kids and be the father and husband I used to be. Like I said, this all just sucks!!
