Okay well to start off, my name is josh im 6'1 tall bulky guy at 214lbs i just turned 20 years old January 4th 2 days before my l4-l5 microdiscectomy in toronto at the sunnybrooks hospital,

Iv been an active persone my hole life never over weight i played nearly every sport throught out my child hood and highschool mostly hockey i played until juniors, i did body building but had to stop due to my back i did track and feild i dirtbiked i did freestyle BMX ect anyways to begin i allways had back pain from about grade 7-8-9ish i noticed i had backpain but it was completely tolerant thought it was just growing pains and so went on, later on about grade 12 ish it got worst and worst and then finally after graduation i got so bad to the point where i coud not walk for more then 10 minutes could not stand in the same place for more the 5 minutes and could not sit for more then 5 minutes i had excruciating pain (10/10) in my lower back and down both my legs, i finaly decided to go get checked ao i went into the emergency room saw a doctor or mentioned a herniated disk and wanted to take an MRI ao i had an mri done and sent to my family doctor went for the follow up so see what was the problem he said he noticed a herniation in my l4-l5 but wasent clear so he sent me for another full MRI a bone-scan and x-rays so after then had another follow up and he said was sending me to a orthopedic spine specialist so i had my meeting with him and he said i had a large herniation that was so bad he didn't mention anything els besides the surgery ao i went on and did it january 6th after dealing with excruciating pain for 5 months,

So to start off with i went in for surgery around 2ish not 100% sure was a bit delayed woke up in recovery with some pretty bad pain, they hit me with a shot of (fetnol, oxycotin, tylenol and something els i cant remember) so needless to say the pain was gone and i was pretty out of it, they then brought me to my room where my family met me, i didint have much pain but was really really grouchy,

3 hours after my surgery i wss able to get up and takea few steps but was still drowsy from the pain meds ao i didint about hours after aurgery i was up and walking up and down the halway a few times with little pain

BUT REMEMBER since i woke up in recovery i did not take ANY pain meds AT ALL.... i spent the night in the hospital because i was so young they didint want me to leave so the next day around 8am the doctor discharged me i then walked throught the hospital on my own to a cab and to my hotel i was staying at and slept 2 hours since i only slept about 2 hours in the hospital over night because of loud people,

So 2PM we had to leave to hotel and take a taxicab to the airport cause i had a 45 minute flight back home to timmins ontario from toronto it was hard getting in and out of the vehicles but we had specials on higher vehicles cause of my back so i then walked through the entire airport and to the waiting area with not much discomfort beside the incision pain too the 45 minute flight home with no problems sitting then walked to the vehicle and off home i went

The first 3 nights after surgery sleeping was a bit hard due to waking up everytime i moved cause i was scared to hurt myself i my sleep i was able to sleep however i wanted, back, sides, stomach ect. I DID take 2 tylenol once or twice a day for the first 4 days but other then that nothing els i was prescribed a small dose of morphine but never went to get my priscription cause i didn't need it, my pain was completely tolerable.

Today marks day 11 im 100%pain free while being carefull obcours (no bending, twisting, lifting) my incision is really itchy cause its healling well

That was my full story, to make a long story short incase you didn't understand everything....

I had 10/10 pain 1 month before the surgery it did ease off about a month before did not have sciatic pain anymore but doctor still wanted to do the surgery, after surgery leg pain and back pain was completely gone 100% day 2 i had little leg pain near the ankle but walked a bit and it went away but day 3 was same as day 2 but didint get the leg pain same thing up to day 7 with hust little incision pain, from day 7 to now im walking alot more the back tension is all gone i can now move my upper body alot more and im almost feeling like my old self again its getting really really hard to watch myself with lifting and bending and twisting cause im feeling so good and dont realise i just had back sugery but i try my best to watch myself as much as i can but its hard.

I have my 2 weeks post-op meeting with my doctor in a few days i will be giving updates daily until and after the appointment

Sorry for the bad explication im really tired right now and i know i probably forgot things but PLEASE if you have ANY questions i would be more then happy to answer them :)

Hope this could help a few people :)
