Having suffered from sciatica for around 18 months, my symptoms worsened and I had small bouts of sciatica in both legs, scrotal pain and an urgency to go to the toilet. I visited my GP and was sent for an MRI Scan. The MRI returned S5 L5 Herniation and a broad based herniation above. I was sent to physio and told to do the press up exercise....the one where you keep your hips on the floor, relax and push up with your arms. I did this exercise and began swimming (something else recommended) and my deterioration became rapid. It is now January and I am a factor of 10 times worse. The pain is acute and I am struggling to function.
My question is this: The disc bulge at s5 is impinging on the nerve root. Intuitively it would seem that in carrying out this press up exercise, a person would put incredible stress on the disc bulge and make it worse?Exercise for Sciatica from a Herniated Disc
