Worried and Wondering

Hi , I'm a 59 yr old Newbie, (oxymoron) . I have been diagnosed with having spinal stenosis L2,L4,L5 and S1. I also have Paget's disease of the lumbar spine, sacrum, pelvis and left femur. I have had P.t. and 7 forms of injections ,nerve burns etc. Now I am facing a surgery where the Dr. is going to do a spinal decompression for the stenosis and to solidify the lumbar spine he wants to fuse from L4 thru S1 using my own bone.
My obvious concern is the pain factor and recovery for a surgery like this. I am also wondering that by using my own bone to fuse from that region of my body, isn't it possible that the bone used will also be affected by the Paget's disease. Paget's disease produces weakened bone.
I definitely need the relief as I really miss taking walks and being able to stand without pain. I had surgery on the Paget's affected left knee last May and it is now getting worse from having to walk awkwardly due to the back issue.
Please if anyone has had similar complications, please advise in what to expect.

Welcome! Sounds like you are no stranger to pain; so sorry to hear of your condition, hoping your fusion will bring you some wellness.

Not knowing much about Paget's disease, I wouldn't be able to tell you the answer you're looking for, definitely a question for your Dr. One of those questions you don't want to go unanswered for your own peace of mind, not one I'd want to leave for assumption.

Hope you let us know how things progress.
