Fusion at artificial disc level!

Just over 12 months ago I underwent surgery which involved fusion at L5/S1 and Artificial Disc Replacement at L4/L5.

After slow fusion progress and continuing back and nerve pain, my latest CT scan shows that the fusion at L5/S1 has progressed well, but also that fusion is also occurring at the same level as the artificial disc, with bone growth from the posterior end plate of L5 to the end plate of L4.

Today I saw my neurosurgeon who stated that he had seen this before and was not too concerned, but I have researched this and cannot find any single example of this on Dr Google. My concern is that the fusion at this level totally defeats the whole purpose of the artificial disc, which is to maintain spinal mobility.

Has anyone else experienced this or have knowledge of this occuring?
