8 Years of non-stop severe mid-back/thoracic pains.

I'm a 25 years old male student. Fell from a mango tree 14 years ago and landed on my back; felt serious pains in the back, but quickly recovered the same day after taking some pills and deep-heat spray.

Six years later, I started feeling uncomfortable whenever I sit down (in this period, it's important to note that I was doing some jobs that required carrying heavy equipments). From 2008 December till now, the pains have never ceased for one second. Gets very bad and unbearable whenever I sit; so, I resort to lying down to study and kneeling down in class (now master's level). I look very normal, play soccer and can do just about every other things humans do(though in pains) apart from lifting heavy things and sitting down comfortably now. So, one can never tell I have a problem unless I mention it.

Have done about 8 different xray these periods, with all coming out clean. Got the result of the second MRI today(from another country, China), and just like the first one, the result is clean too. All blood and urine tests have been fine too.

My challenges are that, having taken dozens of pain killers, the pains never stops for a moment unless I lie down facing up or standing. As well as the inability of over 22 different doctors from two countries to have a clue about what's wrong with me.

Please kindly assist me with necessary information because a good percentage of my income goes into this with no result to show for it. And I want to feel what's like once again to live without pains.

There are no medical professionals on the forum side of this site. Therefore everything you read is based on the personal experiences and/or research done by the individual member. Comments should never be taken as pure medical facts. You need to discuss this with your doctor. They are the only ones that can provide you with detailed information about you, the patient.

When you speak of all the different doctors you have seen and different countries you've been to see doctors,
I'm curious as to what kind of doctors are you seeing?

You mentioned X-rays and MRI. Have they been reviewed by specialist?
Have you had any other testing done to find source of pain?

What kind of doctor is managing your pain medication?

  • I've been meeting up with orthopedic doctors. After my first MRI, the first doctor told me that after consulting with a specialist, that my symptoms are suggestive of syringomyelia. On meeting another, he said that the MRI is clean.

On coming to China, I was moved from GOPD to Orthopedic(recommended another round of xray which I did) to rheumatology in a space of 2 months. The rheumatologist recommended the MRI and full blood test. Fast forward to yesterday (3-2-2016), after meeting up with the rheumatologist(she said it's not a matter for her department) she moved me to hematology. The hematologist said that from the results, that they have no input and moved me to orthopedic again. The doctor, told me that my spine is not curved, but straight, and gave me loads of drugs to take again for two weeks. Note that I've been taking drugs in recent weeks but no change as usual.
    Best Regards.
