I'm new today here, just feeling hope discouraged on the level of pain I'm experiencing.
Three months ago I fell off a ladder and hit my head on our air compressor breaking my neck. They say I'm a C3 AIS D incomplete tetroplegic now but I am increasing my walking daily- out of my chair more. After a 5 1/2 hour surgery they fixed the C6-7 Disc Extrusion, S/P 5-7 anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. Spent over 2 months in the spinal cord unit at the VA Hospital learning to walk again.
One week ago I got to take off the Miami-J collar finally after 3 months. I'm always in pain in the neck, but OMG I now have a flaming spear sticking through my back/neck and no one will remove it, well that's what it feels like anyway. I've been doing ice and heat and taking oxy and muscle relaxers and no relief. I'm in so much pain, it's driving me nuts to never have any relief. I've always had a high tolerance to pain to my detriment the doctors said when I had my knee and foot surgery after my VBID explosion in Afghanistan. Guess if I had whined sooner it wouldn't have been that bad, I told them it hurt but not a whiner. Lately though I'm turning into a whiner it feels like and I hate it, I just don't know how to fight this battle this enemy which is my neck.
If anyone has some tips on pain control, please let me know. The muscle spasms are driving me nut.
