My pm says he's positive that fibro is one of my problems, but, in his own words, does not like to diagnose patients. My pcp is not proactive in any sense of the word, in fact, pretty much everything that she's done has been at my suggestion, due to my research. I know that fibro is hard to diagnose, as there is no specific test for it, but what are the different tests? What should my pcp be doing? She doesn't deal with spiney chronic pain patients regularly (being a contracted doctor for the military) and really has no clue when it comes to diagnostic testing, except to refer for MRIs and then specialists. What should my next step be? Thanks in advance for any and all input and advice.

Hi smiley. By fibro I am assuming you mean fibromyalgia. If I am wrong then this post is worthless to you - sorry.
Fibromyalgia ( to my knowledge ) has no set way to pin point. It is diagnosed based on your symptoms and other factors your Dr takes note of.
I am not sure if we are allowed to post web sites here, but I am going to try to. This link should answer most of your questions.

Some Drs. do not like to make a label of Fibro, as what can happen is everything you have wrong with you is then placed into this little box called "Due to having Fibro".
It can be an easy way "out" for some Drs to not take your pains etc seriously.
Sad but true some Drs still view Fibro as a emotional issue more then a TRUE physical issue, so again the label is not always one that is beneficial to the patient.
To be treated correctly ( in my opinion ) I would see a Rheumatologist.
I am also posting a link on how to pick the right Dr. for Fibro care.

If these links do not post, please PM me for them
Hope this helps - my adult daughter has Fibro, so hopefully I can be of some help to you...

Beth, those sites were very helpful. I would never have thought about a rheumatologist, but then again, I've never seen one before. Thanks for taking the time to respond!!
