I've posted in the Help section about how to upgrade your avatar so that it will have better resolution on this site.
I've offered to make the changes for anyone...
So far I do not have any takers!!!!!!
PLEASE - send me your avatar (If you are not happy with the resolution here) and I will work on it. If you have the original picture before setting it up for the old Spine-Health that is even better.
DO IT - Why? Most people know me as the Avatar changing. I keep changing avatars weekly. Its FUN
Avatars can just be another way to get to know your Pain forum member neighbor!
Send you avatars to: rdilauro@gmail.com
What you get in return may surprise you!

When we moved to this site, the dimensions of avatars changed. So using your old Avatar may look at bit distorted here.
There are several ways we can handle this:
1) Wait until members send me their avatars to be updated.
2) Send a PM to each member that 'we' think the avatar should be updated.
3) Go in and change those avatars that are not clear.
Going the #1 route will take some time, but it works. Route #2 is something I will be trying to do.
Route #3 is something that I am against. I do not want to make changes to anyone's profile without their permission. (unless it is an action to fix a direct violation of the rules

how do ya use those animated avatars on here? Pic size is ok but file size is too large.
Hey, I posted this on Wednesday, it's now Saturday. Whassup????
again, see above post
Ben/Paul,
I am far from an expert on graphics and photos. But I have noticed that some of the animated GIF files work fine IF they do not need to be resized. I can take a GIF that is animated, but it wont fit the forum max sizes. So, I go in and resize it and then the animation is gone.
Then I take the same animated GIF file and load it to my web site (If necessary I increase the max size/limits) When I can get it to fit within guidelines and do not have to make any changes, then I get the animation.
I dont know if this is the answer or not..
I will have to defer to my specialist, araine, if she cant figure things out about Photos, gifs, jpegs, bmp, etc, no one else can

Ron - I sent you my avatar a few days ago.... I asked you to fix it up for me - remove the wrinkles, highlight the hair and just give it a general all around make over. I am assuming since I've not heard from you and my "old" avatar is still here, that it was a task even you weren't able to do?
Or did you just not receive it? I sent it to you via PM from work (jberthelot)....
Let me know if it's a lost cause so I will quit logging on every day hoping I'm beautiful again!

Sorry Jeaux, I did not receive your avatar. Please resend it.
Once I get it and play around with it, I will send it back to you for you to approve.
Also
It would help alot if you had the original picture before it was resized to fit into the old Spine-Health.
I can resize one of the modified avatars but it would never be as clear as if I worked from the original

I will look into this to see if there is an easier approach to get the animations on here, and then work on the clarity. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Concerning animated Avatars: Can you give instructions on how to post them here?
You can post a GIF to spine health the same way as a picture. Make sure you delete your picture first. Then, when your GIF is at it's proper specs, upload it like normal.
You want to play with my what?!?
I will resend it to you.
But I think I have to go through my computer files to do it.... So, look for something from JBerthelot.....
Thanks!

But I just had to show this cute avatar off !
Viking
V , he is so cute....
Too cool Viking!!!!
How about if we have a particular website that we visit to get various avatars, etc. from? Could we share that info here somewhere, maybe even on this thread?
Also, I just gotta ask this...what happened to my favorite smiley? (the "bird" one) Can we have that one back? Pretty please???
I'm also wondering something else but not sure where to ask...so I'll put it here and I (or you) can delete this part if need be-do we have an editor? Cause I'm often finding typo (usually spelling) errors and for whatever reason that really bugs me, so I was thinking, if we don't have an editor, could I apply for the job?
I always have to do the editing for my son's websites as his spelling needs some improvement, so just thought I'd ask and offer.
Take care of you...

Sorry, I forgot I wanted to ask this...
Is there a way to convert a "bmp" image to a "jpg" or "jpeg"? I have some recent pix of me that I took with my onboard webcam (I recently cut off my long hair and have a new short hair look-that's why I took the pix, not cause I'm conceted, I swear!
) and they're bmp's, which means I can't use them for avatars, etc. on most any website. I would love to convert them to jpeg/jpg so I can actually use them for something.
I would be happy to send a few of them if someone can do it, but if it can be explained, I'm perfectly happy to do my own too. Whichever is easiest-if it's even possible.
Thanks!
Gentle Hugs,

Hi , EMT
There are several packages that can save a BMP file to a JPEG or JIF.
Some are:
Photoshop Element
MS Digitial Image
Besides, your avatar looks perfect!

Well aren't you sweet!
Actually, this is the only jpeg I have that's half descent since I got my hair cut...but in this pic, it's not even styled! It was early in the morning at a hotel near Chicago where a bunch of us from Cruise Critic met up for a weekend "land based" face to face...and this pic was taken at our goodbye brunch, so I just got out of bed and off I went!
(some day I'll have my eldest chitlin take a pic of me with hair done, make up on, etc...ya'll won't recognize me!

Tanya you may send those original files to me, and I can convert them to avatars for you if you wish. araine86@gmail.com

I have had trouble posting avatars. I will go into my account and click "edit". I will delete current avatar and click "submit". I then have to come back onto the forums before submitting a new one???? If I don't, the old one, taht I deleted, remains. Then I can go back and repeat the process and submit new one. I think.
Well, this is the third time tryin' and old one is gone. Will try now to post new one.
The 4th time's the charm. Peace, Baby.......
Ben, thank you , you just confirmed I am not crazy!
This has been happening to me since day one. You know I change avatars weekly, and each time I do, I have to delete the current one, add the new one, the old one is still there.
I go through this 3 or 4 times, and then the new avatar
shows up.
Right now, you have been the only one that has confirmed that action.
I will look into this further now that I know its not just me

just confirmed it with each other!
I have found I need to delete, submit, come make a post, go back and add new one, come back and post, then it shows up.
Wierd...
first i would like to say i like your new pix much more than old one-thats a cool lookin little dude in the pix ..but what is he holding? i also had a hard time posting avatars (new word for this lady)(ive only been on puters for a few months, and im a learnin fool)poor paul had to explain over and over to me what avatars ment poor paul it was embarrassing but must of not been to embarrassing for me cause i just told the world hahahah, but i did do it myself changed my own pix it took me three days prolly 15 hours but i did do it by myself. and yes i am patting my own back (hi 5 to patsy) hehehe i can tell my pain pill is working cause i get silly when im feelin better, and silly a wanna be all the time...ps leave this little dude up for awhile. anyway can you tell me who he is?
silly patsy
is my son. He is holding a beer and smoking a cigarrette. I have talked to him about that but he works and makes his own money and can spend it the way he sees fit.
you get a giggle out of me..thats for sure! patsy
When I saw that pic today I was thinking...
Groovy!!!
dilauro, does an avatar have to come from a digital picture? Jenny
be impeccable with your word..
If it's on the internet, you can use it. Might have to edit it (make it smaller)
Jenny...I need to get a new one. All my old, saved pics are on my other puter. We'll see what we can come up with. Weren't you a nurse? I have an avatar for you....
can come from many different sources
1 - Digital pictures from cameras
2 - Scanned photos into a computer
3 - Internet photos
4 - Internet Libraries of Avatars
And as Ben said, they all may need to be resized
to fit into
85x85 pixel and 30kb size restrictions

OK, I'm getting irritated with the avatars again! The whole delete current pic, trying to add a new one is just driving me NUTZ!!! I've tried deleting the pic, then posting, then going back to add the new pic....nothing is working. WHY does SH hafta make this so difficult?
I think they need to take some lessons from CruiseCritic-it's SO much easier to edit your info/avatars on that site and the format is very similar to here.
*sigh* I'll keep trying & if I can't get it, I'll be sending a whole folder of pix to someone so they can just pick the one they like best and put it on as my avatar
Happy Hump Day everyone!

you would like as an avatar. Just email me the picture and I will take care of it.
This software allows for bigger avatars than the old site, but there are problems that when you replace an existing avatar, the old one shows up.
I've been at this for 3 days now. I have replaced my current avatar, I see it replaced, but a little later on, the old avatar pops ups.
I just hope things are going better for you

This has been happening since the site was brought up on the "new" software. I'm being nice Ron
Your Cruise website is running with a forum/bbs software package. vBulletin. It is geared more for just that. I get the same problems you do. You have to be patient. Delete your current avatar. Logout and back in. If it went away try loading the new one. If not try deleting it again. There is a bug in the code and it does not always delete your stored avatar file.

this has been going on from day one.
The thing I havent been able to understand, is that it doesnt happen to everyone.
(At least I have not heard that or seen that)
I wish I knew where the problem was so I could provide some clear cut instructions on how to replace your avatar.
This has been forwarded to development, but so far, they can not reproduce the problem
You know how that goes.
If you have a way to sort of make replacing avatars foolproof, I would be so thankful...

I changed my hair, so sent you a new photo. Please work your magic, like you did last time!
Many thanks,
Cheri
Ron,
Let me play around with it. I found 1 way to get it to stick most of the time. It required some delete/logout/login/verify, lather, rinse, repeat, add new, etc... but I did get it changed after a bit.
One really big issue people need to verify their shiny new image is really 85x85. The 30kb is not an issue for me. I use at least 64K resolution on the images. Maybe 24-bit true color might cause an overflow of the 30kb. The 85x85 I find is a bit tight to work with and get good detail.

• The only valid excuse you have to give up is if you are dead.
Well this avatar change/add/update is an interesting one. It seems that a sane solution is not appropriate. Whereas the insanity approach works well...
I tried just deleting my avatar. Then delete, logout, login, check. Then delete, logout, wait a while, login, check. This was hit and miss and sometimes the avatar went away (but not really!). It went away for now. Until...
Once my avatar appeared to be deleted and I had none. I tried using a new avatar. The file upload appears to work. Go back and look. No new avatar. Trying login/logout, wait/don't wait. No such luck. Best case I have no avatar. Worst case, the original one comes back.
It appears no matter what is done. The DB holding your profile always has your previous avatar. Even when it appears it is gone. Smoke and mirrors?
So when all else fails. Brute force and insanity. Yes that's right. I sat here clicking delete avatar (old one) and load avatar (new one) then Submit. After 10 or tries it took. I now have a new avatar. For how long I'm not sure. So in this case if you continue to do the same thing over and over you get a different result...
The moral of the story. You need to be a little bit crazy to even waste your time doing this. And if you are a bit crazy and use an insane approach. It works. I love computers (but not Drupal)
LOL
• The only valid excuse you have to give up is if you are dead.
All the things you mentioned above and move go around into making avatar changes.
Every once in a while I get surprise, after the first try, there it is my new avatar... Only to find out a few minutes later, the old one came back!
I know its a problem, but in the scope of things, its low priority, only impacts us avatar groupies

Absolutely. This is not a big deal at all. Even having avatars is overhead. I was just curious if I could get the problem to reproduce consistently. There is no rhyme or reason to it. So punt.
You have much bigger projects you could work on to enhance the site. Someone made an awesome suggestion about splitting up the back & neck surgery section into two sections. I think that is a good idea too
