Does anyone out there get muscle spasms and extreme pain with a back brace. I usually cant lay on my back and any pressure from a chair or such on my lower back is very painfull, but my surgeon felt a back brace would help. Well he was wrong, I am going to send him an e mail tonight but I wanted to see if others cant use one.
I have not had any surgery and I'm suffering from DDD, a few bulging discs and an annular tear. I dont know if any of this would cause this or not. Thanks,......Mitch
I was thinking of getting a backbrace but haven't got a script yet for one. But I heard they're helpful. Maybe you just need it for walking or working around the house. I hope you hear back from your surgeon. Take care. Charry

Ive had surgery.. so a little different but I wouldnt be without mine. It gives my back support and I feel "naked" without it. It doesnt cause spasms nor any pain. Hope your doctor replies soon! Good luck!

Have done Steroid injections, PT, aqua therapy, NSAIDS, Hodgepodge of meds, SCS trial (failed), EMG, discogram, Insurance denied IDET.

Former meds include: Duragesic 50mcg, Oxy IR 5mg PRN.
Meds after surgery: Percocet, colace, valium prn, ambien prn, cymbalta, lyrica, xanax prn. Have gotten away from alot of the prn meds now, and cutting back on the percocet.
My chiro ordered me a back brace over 7 years ago when my back pain first started and it never seem to relieve the pain. This is from my own personal experience. I had fusion of L5 S1 on 7/1/08 and they order a special brace post op, however, I didn't wear that either because that didn't seem to help. The only thing I wore was the support brace they gave me in the hospital post op because the went in through my stomach. I wore that because it helped support my stomach incision but it didn't help support my back.
Hopefully you will have better luck. Some people do find relief from back braces.
