Lower Back Pain
Driving after fusion surgery

I had surgery 6 weeks back, when should be ready to drive car, I was told to wait, can anyone advise, if they had any problems with driving or sitting in car as passenger. I started driving last week just twice, will there be any problem with fusion surgery if I drive.

Please advise. God bless you all.

Drove 10 days post op!

My husband had to be away the week after he stayed home with me for my 360 fusion at L4-L5 with disc replacement and hardwear. I just had to be with him as it was my birthday and I was having some post-op emotional issues. I felt fine but I know it was early to drive, I just had to see him. It was a 1/2 hour drive and he drove back. I have since been driving to the store and such but nothing to long. I have also noticed I do not like being a passenger for long drives.. 1 hour or more, I find myself sore and sleepy. Call your doctor and see what is advisable for you. I told my doctor I drive and he just looked at me as if...Are you nuts!! He didn't say it but I knew better. Gotta Love "Em

some diffrent for others

Had my surgery almost 2 years ago...having more in a month to remove hardware...anyways I still have problems driving to this day! Turning corners too fast...as a driver or passanger. Going over bumps still sucks! Guess its all in how you recover. In all honesty it was the most miserable thing ive ever been through! Hope your lucks better Big Hug

Going on about 11 weeks

Going on about 11 weeks since my fusion surgery and I have no desire to drive. Scares me too much. Can you imagine getting in an accident this soon out of major back surgery? Eeeeks not me.

Bumps

I think I waited about three months and I drove, was nice to drive for a change at that point, I hardly drive though anymore. My biggest issue is going over bumps, train tracks and construction areas where the pavement is uneven, really have to slow down for things like this to make it smoother.

on sick

hiya, i had a PLIF about 12 months ago. It went well for about 6 months. After that it appeared to go back to the same it was before. I find that my back aches when I drive. No problems with bumps but the ache makes it painful to drive any distance but short journeys appear ok. Good luck to you.

driving after surgery

My doctors concerns regarding driving were 2 fold. 1 was my ability to turn my head so I could see behinf me. 2 was the narcotic meds I was on.

Cervical myelopathy, 16 surgeries to date, Severe OA, bilateral knee replacements, DDD, 13 MRI’s, 4 sets of spinal cortisone procedures and dozens of cortisone shots in other areas for OA. Upcoming scheduled surgeries include laminectomy and removal of synovial cyst located at left facet joint of L4-L5 (may require fusion); Right resection of A-C joint (left was done 12 years ago, by far the most painful of all my surgeries)

My doc says I can drive now

The doc said I could drive at 2 weeks post op, but I still don't feel comfortable doing it so I have not tried. I am on narcotics and my right leg spasms often. I don't think that is a good mixture.

One Love,

Stephanie
