First time posting in this Exercise forum. I am now about 8 weeks post op PLIF/decompression with instrumentation. Only exercise I'm doing now is walking. Doc says I'm beginning to fuse and OK'd me for "getting back to exercising - gently."
Am 56. I have been a runner and regular gym attender most of my life but in the last 2 years, as my back became progressively more painful (before I knew what extreme problems were developing in my L4-5) I simply stopped exercising. Eventually I could hardly walk. Extreme stenosis, spondy level 2 and huge synovial cyst have left me recovering from lots of nerve damage but getting better every day and the nerves are healing.
Now I'd like to start some easy ab exercises to help take the strain off my lower back muscles but my big exercise ball doesn't feel good on my incision sites (one for bone graft harvest). Does anyone have a suggestion for exercises that don't irritate the surgery site?? I know lots of exercises for abs but they all tend to hurt the incision site which is still pretty sore.
Sorry for the long post!!!!
