LTD Approval Today

Hi All,

I guess this is good news, I got approved for LTD also. I don't know if it is a difficult process for the approval, but none-the-less I got the approval. The only thing is that I'm very upset because I always worked 2-3 jobs and LTD is deducting my WC amount monthly so I only am getting $145 a month for LTD. It doesn't make sense to me because I worked 2 jobs I don't understand how one job has to do with the other.

But I am really trying to find the silver lining in all of this so I thought I would post this as an accomplishment and try to stop beating myself up over this. Even though I will only have $152 a month to live on after all of my bills are paid. I mean we are talking the basics, rent, untilities, health insurance, car insurance. My car note and credit cards are being paid for because thankfully I had disability insurance that I paid for monthly.

So even with those being paid that still only leaves me $38 a week for food, pets, emergencies, etc.

But again, I'm trying to look at the good. It's just hard because they were paying me $1200 for STDmontly and now it will only be $145 because of deducting the WC $$ from the other job. Oh well, be grateful Pebbles, right???!!!

Oh yeah, I applied for food stamps and assistance with the electric bill too.

Remember

on the old site when I explained that LTD will deduct any other income from your payment? I was actually explaining how it worked when you collect LTD and SSD but, LTD will always deduct any other monthly income that you have from your payments. I am so sorry that you were so unprepared for this. But, you will be OK. There is help out there for you. You may even be eligible for medicaid or maybe Fla has a state insurance program?

Thanks Back

Well I was prepared for SSD coming out of LTD, but not WC coming out of LTD. It's not your fault, but it's just not fair again I worked 2 jobs, I need two incomes. I have done everything humanly possible now, applied for SSD/SSI/Medicaid/Food Stamps. I am just so afraid with the economy, how are people supposed to live on such low fixed incomes? Thankfully I have a WC cause, but geez!

I know

what you are saying. groceries alone should make a whole lot of us qualify for food stamps. gas is effecting everything and I do not think that it will get much better anytime soon! Did you get a copy of your LTD policy? You really may want to so that you will not have anymore surprises. Do they pay you until retirement age or do they just pay for a few years? These are things that you need to know.

Hi Pain

I do have a copy of my Policy and yes they pay until 65, thank goodness. But I'm just so scared about the future, I can't even imagine SSD being around much longer they way things are going.

Yes the food stamps will really help. Thankfully I can't drive far, just to pharmacy/market that's all. WC pays for all other Dr. visits by taxi.

I know LTD will increase when my WC runs out which is I think in 1.5 years if I'm still disabled. I will not settle until I'm fixed. Again in Fl. if you settle you are done, you medical is closed. What if I need another surgery in say 5 years? So I have to be very careful and stragetic about how I'm going to handle this litigation. That's why I want to go after the restaurant now, I have to secure my future, after all someone else caused this injury!

I'm also going to make sure that WC pays for my new Therapist I plan to see for PTSD!

Own Occupation Clause

Do they have this clause in your policy? Lots of them do and usually it will say that they will pay you for 2 years if you can't do your last job. After two years they will stop paying if they decide that you can do any job at all.

Work Clause

I did read yesterday that they did say they will require me to do periodically go through work rehab testing, but right now I am unable to do "my own job", but yes like you said down the line they will see if I'm able to do any job, etc. So I'll cross that road when I get there. They will only be taking away $145 a month anyway. But I have to be grateful for it right?

Offsets

pebbles- My LTD policy offset the months I received both LTD and SSDI and I owed them from my backpay from SSDI. I don't know what your policy says but you may want to check what it says about Other Income, Overpayments, Offsets, Monthly Minimum Benefit. I think some polices offset for all family social security benefits. I think it is just you (and no family benefits) but I wanted to give a heads up to other people who may read this. smiley jade
