Yay, was approved by Canada Pension today!
It was about a 5 month process and I was approved first time around. They said it was pretty obvious, cut and dry, and I have one of the thinnest files they've seen.
So this means I will be covered by the Federal government for their max allowable to age 65, and LTD through work will top up the rest because my LTD income is more than the maximum allowable through CPP. Basically in the end I must get the same amount of income as I am presently getting on LTD.
So, I am relatively young (40s) with 13 years of university education, which goes to show you that there is hope for younger professional
people.
Woooooot!

Very happy for you. I know CPP Disability said my application and the Dr. was very thorough plus you must have sent in all your test results and consults right. I have the same LTD also and it remains the same to except LTD made me apply for my work pension early also but I chose to get free accrual to my old age pension instead. Anyways so glad to have that taken care of. Celebrate!

Any answers I have is not medical advice only a Doctor can help you with that. Just sharing my personal experience as a fellow Spine Health member only. Mild bilateral foraminal narrowing Neck-reverse Lordosis of c-spine C6-C7 with impingement, numb hand and sore outer elbow. Keep the faith.
thanks so much for your response charry, i appreciate it. since i had surgery in 2005 and 2008 my doc gave me everything from her file from 2005 on, which included mri results, xray results, ct scan results, bloodwork results, and letters and consults from every member of my pain management team as assigned by work insurance (psychologist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, physician), plus consults from all members of 6-week fulltime program i took in pain management through the hospital. there was also a letter/consult from all of my doctors in see in the community (ortho surgeon, neurologist, pain management doc, psychiatrist, psychologist, oral surgeon). last but not least was letter from my gp. she was very, very thorough. she was awesome! this hasn't really hit me yet ... i am going to start the process of retiring on medical grounds through work, but will take a lump sum.

Being in the US, I don't know your system, but Congrats!!! I retired under disability from my federal government job/career (a bit different, but the end all is the same?). I am in constant change, so I keep em guessing I guess! (G)
Congrats to you woman!!! I *know* stress levels for sure came down!

hi brenda, thanks for poppin' in to my thread and posting. yup, CPP is the Canadian equivalent of disability as defined by the federal government. i worked for the federal government so i have LTD trough work's insurance plan, plus CPP from feds i think is same as SSDI.

Thanks very much for the co-country comparison, as I learned something today. I do know that Canada, and the US are pretty similar in a lot of ways, but disability and such....folks like you confirm to me, we are again close, as we should be!!!
My Federal disability retirement isn't called LTD, but in its odd way, it might have well been! My SSD is internal to my retirement as well, so that takes a bit of the edge off. Nice to see Canada and the US (using different wording of course) are very similar in how they work with their citizens on the disability side of the house!!! Thanks for adding to my knowledge, it is appreciated!!! *HUG*

Congrats Ruth!! My application is still up there, but hopefully I will hear back in the next couple of months! Our LTD thru the military tops us up to 75% of what our pay was when we are medically released, after CPP, military pension, VA pensions are taken into account, but every little bit helps, and having that extra security til the old age pension kicks in is nice. So happy that you got approved!!

Congrats Ruth on your CPP! What a relief it must be to know that you have this money coming in.
I think that this route may unfortunately be in my future as well. Glad to see that there is hope, as I am only 40 as well.
Such a load off of your shoulders, I am sure.

Hi; and just wanna wish you "congrats" on getting approved for CCP.
I know what a relief that is, so now hoping you can relax and enjoy it for a little while.

thanks everyone, i appreciate your kind words and wishes. it is absolutely amazing how much less stress i am feeling already. i really hope all your applications come through in your favour. it's bad enough having chronic pain, let alone have to worry about your financial state of affairs.

I just got my back pay cheque, just in time for christmas! They approved me effective last May. Now I just have to call my ltd provider to get that sorted out before they take it all back, lol.
