Another Chantix Question

Does anyone know if it's ok to cut the 1 mg tablets in half? I tried Chantix several months ago and didn't quit. Now I want to try again. I don't have the .5 mg tablets left, so I thought I could just cut it in half. Then I read about when you cut a controled released med in half, you get too much of a med in your system all at one time. Not sure if this applies to Chantix? I took 1/2 pill yesterday and kept waking up all during the night. Is that possibly a reaction to Chantix?

Hi Joy

Perhaps it was if they're extended release. You can call the pharmacy and ask them if it's okay. Take care. Charry

Update

I did call the pharmacy and they told me that it should not be a problem as it is not a "sustained release" medication. Took it again yesterday and did not have the sleep problem I had the first night. Will try again today. Thanks, Charry!

Yes you can cut them in

Yes you can cut them in half. It's fine. I cut them in 1/4s when I weened my way off them.

One of the side affects is sleeping issues.

Go to the chantix website and read up on it. It's documented.

Wow I was just gonna post

Wow I was just gonna post the exact same thing about cutting them. I'm in the same situation as you are. Yried to quit a while ago and wanna try again. Tonight is my quit night. I have about 5 smokes left so I'm gonna smoke myself sick and go to bed. I should wake up never wanting to smoke again.LOL. Only if it was that easy.

only thing is my chantix is expired by like 8 months. Seems to be working ok. The smokes don't taste good anymore. They actually tatse like poo poo. From what I remember of last time I was smoking alot less then. I was also not on a bunch of pain meds so I wonder if that's the difference.

still gonna try to quit. I'll let you all know how it works out for me.

OP
good luck on your mission. Remember there are lots of people here for support.

Tastes funny/weird

Yeah cigs start to taste funny or weird. Then the general interest in cigs just seems to away.

Stay out of bars and restaurant smoking sections for a while too.

Now go shampoo and fabreeze the heck out of your car. In no time you'll notice it smells like a rolling ash tray.

So you tried Chantix months

So you tried Chantix months ago, you didn't quit and now you want to try it again but cutting the pills in half? Why don't you try a different method? Electric cig seems to work, you quit the smoking but you don't quit the nicotine, it's still an improvement since the smoke in cigarettes is the real danger.
