I had a flexion extension xray of my cervical spine to check for fusion after ACDF of one year ago. The first fusion was at C67 and one year later at C56.
It mentioned the slippage previously , but it s now at every level above the fusion and increased at the C4C5 level. My NS (who I refuse to see again) won't discuss the significance of the finding.
Anyone else developed this anterolisthesis or slippage after ACDF? Is there anything you can do to stop the slippage and prevent anymore surgery?
I've had a fusion at C5-6 and ADR (artificial disc replacement) at C3-4, C4-5 and C6-7 and we've seen anterolisthesis at C2-3 each year and now it's worse. My x-ray said 4 mm, but I just showed it to my PM (pain management doc) and he said it was worse than that, but he didn't have his measuring tool on him. Anyway - it's very common. Due to the abnormal movement at the surgically repaired level, the adjacent levels have problems of some sort (degeneration or in our case, anterolisthesis to make up for the lack of movement). What we can do is to try and keep our necks in the neutral position as much as possible (built towers to read books, do paperwork and other kinds of things to keep those things at eye level, have computer screens at eye level, etc.) If it's really bad, you might want to wear a neck brace when working on the computer, or when needing to sit up and e.g. watch performances or sitting up for long periods of time or doing things that would cause you neck pain. These are the things I do and have been advised to do to protect my neck from deteriorating faster. It's still deteriorating, but hopefully less fast than it would otherwise. I'm not wanting to jump into another surgery.
I wish you the very best and I'm very sorry to hear that you have the slippage, too. It's all such a drag. You want to just have had surgery, be healed and done with it all. It's disappointing to have yet another problem. So, take care of yourself, keep your neck in a neutral position as much as possible and I wish you the very best,

Chronic back pain since age 13 due to falling off horses - went to chiropractor
3 times a week for one year at that age for back pain and bones out of place all over body.
C5-6 fusion about 6 years ago
C3-4, C4-5 and C6-7 ADR 4 years ago
C2-3 about 5 mm anterolisthesis and neural foraminal osteophytes growing back at all the levels previously cleaned out by surgery. Chronic pain and headaches 24/7, occipital neuritis. Occipital blocks help - RFAs not as useful.
Chronic back, bilateral hip, groin, bilateral leg pain.
