I was wondering if anyone has developed sleep apnea after cervical fusions?
I have no idea if I have it. My husband and daughter both say I snore a lot more and I am completely exhausted all the time, but haven't had a sleep study. I don't sleep well but I am not sure it is a pain thing or something else.
I was just curious if any one else noticed it?
Thanks,
Julie

Hi Julie...I had to undergo a sleep study a few months ago as I kept on stopping breathing and started snoring, something I never did before my 3 neck fusions..
I know for a fact that it is really hard to swallow and you have to mash most of your food for a while as it seems to get stuck in your throat so easy but Im like you, I would be very interested if any others are like us??

Although I don't have sleep apnea, I snored for two months after my ACDF, according to my hubby. I've never snored before and have always worn earplugs to bed because my hubby is a big snorer. So I'm in the snoring-after-ACDF club as well.

~ October 21, 2008 - ACDF, 3-level (C4/5, 5/6 6/7), with hardware and eight screws. All fused and hardware is stable.
~ January 6, 2010 - TLIF at L4/5, two rods and four pedicle screws.
~ July 2010 - New CT and MRI on cervical shows further problems above fusion at C2/3 and worst at C3/4.
