Uncontrolable twitching and shaking post acdf surgery

Hi all it's been a while since I wrote anything but here goes. I'm 5wks. post acdf c5c6c7 2 levels with 2 plates. My question is does everyone shake and twitch uncontrolably after surgery? Is this normal? I also still have left arm and finger numbness and a whole lot of pain. Still on pain meds. I tried 1 day off of them and cried for hours I hurt so bad, won't do that again. I started PT this week and stiffness and pain are bad. Depression also hit me like a bolt of lightening cried for 3 wks. non stop, now I'm mad because the only reason I had this surgery was to regain the mobility and strength in my arms and grasp but I can't do either. Thanks for listening!!!

I had a 3 level ACDF and never had any twitching. I am not sure where your twitching is but did you have this before surgery. If its a new thing I would definitely call the surgeon. You are still only 5 weeks Post op give it time it can still get better. Also some medications may cause twitching too so you may want to check that too.

Give it time I am sure it will get better everyone is different but I didn't feel a whole lot better until about 8 weeks after surgery.

Twitching

If the twitching is in your arms it could be the nerves relaxing after being compressed so long. Now the shaking I really think you need to address with your surgeon. If it is shaking as a result of the weakness and your over doing it, that would be one thing. Whatever you do be sure to tell the PT about these symptoms as well and see if they have any answers. Sometimes depression does follow surgery, there are lots of drugs introduced in the surgery and it takes awhile to get them out of your system. If your still having issues with it by all means be sure to talk to someone. Give the PT a chance to help with the weakness you have under went major surgery and it will take time to heal. Try to judge your progress by the week and not by the day. Also some therapy may do good to help some of the pain as some of that maybe muscle spasms and need to be worked out. Take care and keep us posted.

Doc and staff don't care

I called my Dr's office yesterday to get a refill on my oxycodone and they called me back 7 hrs. later and the nurse said Dr. dosen't like to give any more refills for them. I took my last one yesterday after PT and went threw the night in pain. My question is how much pain are we suppose to supress? Are we suppose to be 100% with no pain after 5 wks. I don't understand how they can treat people and expect miracles. Nurse said she would call in Vicoden but I don't know how this is going to help my pain. I'm mad and very disappointed in My NS. Any suggestions?
Please.

Hi Slinc

Maybe you can get a referral to Pain Management if the Narcos don't work. It's hard to believe all his patients are well enough after 5 weeks. Take care. Charry
