Well I've been lurking here so I figured I'd join.
I have some questions that I'll post in another part of the forum. However, it seems we all have the same questions.
L4/L5 and L5/S1 disc herniations with an appt to see a surgeon. The L5/S1 is actually considered extruded so I'm expecting that I'll be going under the knife. Getting really tired of the sciatica - pain, numbness, weakness - and lack of mobility.
One of my questions will be what to expect, 2 microdiscectomy procedures for the 2 discs, or might the surgeon recommend fusion instead? I'm going to take whatever he says and layer it with my own research...

please be sure and get more than one medical opinion! have you tried any of the nerve pain medications out now for sciatica? please talk to your doctor about this if you are interested.

MS,Severe DDD ,Osteoarthritis,Mylopathy, Balance prob,Permanant brain dam in memeory dept.Scoliosis,High BP,Angina,Historectomy, Gallbladder rem,Spinal decmpression C3-C7, both sides of spine propt open C6&7,perm nerve damage in hands from this, Fusion C3-C6, Fusion L5-S1,sciatica, Soon removing the plate just put in with fusionC3-C6 of June 09 in an upcoming surgery to remove plate and put rods etc. from C2-T2 Work history of lifting a lot of furniture, lifting many people,many many car accidents,many freak type accidents like trees falling on my head, diving into shallow end of pool etc etc. Lots of ouchies! Plate removed 10-10 bars put in, found broken neck in two places so 2 surgeries turned to 3 and wore halo
