New Member, Old Pain...

Hey everyone,
I'm a 29 y.o. male that experienced back pain dating back to 1997ish due to sports injuries. I'm pretty active and workout 3-5 times/week. I got promoted to a desk job in March 2008 and that's when things got really bad for me and I could barely sit down due to lower back/sciatica (right leg) pain.

A MRI revealed a bulged L4-L5 and herniated L5-S1 discs. I tried a chiro at first and hated it. The pain was so unbearable I did a series of 3 cortison injections, the last one occuring in November 2008. The pain over the past year has been managable but annoying. I was going to a acupunture/massage guy and that has helped, although I haven't been back in a few months.

What I'd like to read up in the immediate future is about any information about Upper Cervical treatment, since I'm scheduled to meet w/ a Dr. about it this weekend. I'd also like reviews/advice on a good bed mattress. The last thing I'd like to know is about core training. I wanted to change my workouts to do less weights and more core/pilates type stuff. Am I going to experience more pain at first? what are good dvds? Is it safe to do due to my lumbar problems? etc.

I appreciate any advice/into/links. Time to go search the forum for answers, thanks for your time!

Hi Cortete and Welcome

I bought a memory foam mattress and sleep better than an ordinary mattress. I also found some links on yutube to work with an excercise ball. Best to see a Physiotherapist also for training and some do acupuncture also. Good luck. Charrry

Welcome to SH

If you type in mattress at the search box at the top of this page you will find an entire thread devoted to the subject. As far as safe workouts it is really always best to check with your doc on what may be safe for you. Good luck to you and keep us posted.
