Pars Defect and Bulged disk

Hi my name is Diana and I'm new to the forum. I have suffered with back pain for 8 years and I am 26 years old.

My history is: I started dancing when I was 3 and had to stop when I was 16 due to bad knees. I had a patellar (sp?) ligament malformation. 2000 fell off horse and had inflammation between my ribs and a concussion. 2001 car accident, t-boned on my left side, concussion. 2002 diagnosed with a slight curvature of the spine less than 30 degrees. 2003 car accident, left side, concussion, 10 stitches in my forehead, broken tooth, two black eyes.

I started feeling back pain after falling off my horse in 2000. I have been dealing with it for years and it had gradually gotten worse. In 2008, I started to notice the foot pain. I was working out 5 days a week, running and using the gym. I finally went to the doctor after I couldn't run for even a few minutes without severe foot pain. It felt like running barefoot on concrete for hours.

I was diagnosed with a pars defect on my L5 vertebrae. I went to physical therapy for 8 weeks and got a 300 dollar back brace and Super Feet insoles. I am now worse, not due to the physical therapy, they were very good. I just thought my condition had worsened and maybe was something else.

I am on summer break so I have had a chance to rest, but the pain has gotten worse. It now hurts to lay down too. The foot pain and stiffness is constant with or without the insoles. I was prescribed tylenol 3 which helps a little. I continue to ice and do my exercises and wear my insoles and my brace and take my pills... I feel like I can't do anything. They pain is so bad at this point.

I went back to the doctor and got an MRI. I have now been diagnosed with a bulge in my disk. My doctor ordered a shot in my back on June 25th. She called it a Pars Block. I am nervous for this shot and was wondering if anyone else has had a similar case as mine. Are there any side effects or pain?

I have a demanding, physical major in school. I am a BFA 3D Media- Metals major. I make jewelry to large sculptures in metal. I am on my feet sometimes 15 hours a day working on concrete floors. It is so intense and can cause a lot of pain to a healthy person! I only have one semester left before I graduate. I need to be better by September! I suffered so much last semester, I was considering dropping out. But I made it through and passed my classes, but now I think my body is paying for it. Please if anyone has any advice, I would LOVE to hear it!!!

Thanks Smile -Diana
