Fractured L2, need to whine, hoping for support....

Hi everyone. I have been posting on Spine-Health for awhile now but it has always been with questions about my neck. I thought I had that under control and then I was in a one car accident last Monday and I fractured my L2 vertebra. I ran off the road and did an end-over-end flip. Landing right side up and in a tremendous amount of pain in my lower back. Thank God I already had a spine specialist that I see for my neck so I was able to get right in and see her. She said that I needed to have the Kyphoplasty done, but my insurance won't cover it. I'm too young or something (34). So, it apears I will be doing this the hard way.....bracing and bed rest for 3 to 5 months. Bed rest is hard for me. I have children, a husband and a full time job. I need to be up taking care of my responsibilities. If anyone has been through this, please let me know how you managed. What was your outcome after bedrest and bracing? What are your long term problems, if any? Were you able to go back to work full time? I feel like a useless burden right now and I want so badly for this to be over.

Hi. I fractured L1 in Feb. I

Hi. I fractured L1 in Feb. I am 27 and had no back/neck probs before. I was told that it could be managed with a brace and rest. I spent 2 weeks in hospital. My first month at home was spent with a bed downstairs in the living room.Even as I started to improve slowly I found having the bed there allowed me to lie down in the day when I needed to as I couldn't sit for long. I am now 5 months down the line. I can do bits and pieces aroun the house, eg cook etc but still taking pain relief an off work still (my work is physically demanding). I get MRI results next week and find out if a kyphoplasty is needed after all! I hope not - I'm a bit scared of the procedure/risks and not sure if I can face taking a step backwards in my recovery - though don't want the pain to continue indeffinately.
Sorry, I'm not being overy positive am I - but I can relate to how you feel.

I have similar problems

I have similar problems too... I fractured my L1L2 vertebrae from doing cheerleading, and have been in a brace since June--I deeply sympathize with you. I've been able to go to school and the like, no bed rest, but I've still been having pain, so I hope that your regime works for you!
The best of all luck!

Compressed fracture T11

Hi I am a young 53!and was riding Pillion on a motorbike when we were shunted from behind! After a spectacular somersault, I received a compressed fracure T11...eventually I was given a body brace wich I have worn for almost 4 months.surgeon still not happy with progress so I'm waiting for MRI scan with a view to Kyphoplasty.

Thanks to a diligent G.P. who sent me for a bone density scan I have been diagnosed with Osteoporsis T -2.9

Question = will the discovery of Osteoporsis have any bearing on the decision to have Kypholasty ? I'm assuming they will have to be sure my bones are strong enough before proceeding... as at the moment I am at risk of further fractures. I have only been taking medication for Osteo for 2 months.
