Hi all---I thought it would be good to read these threads=I have had 2 spinal fusions within 2 years, and have osteoporosis.I sometimes fear my back will just "fall apart".Has anyone been in this situation?
Are you taking anything for the osteoporosis? I had spinal fusion, and I am taking FOSAMAX (generic form) for years and that seem to help prevent bone loss. Since lot of my problems are due to osteoarthritis, it is important to take something for bone health. Have you tried anything?

I know what you mean about the fear of "fallining apart".
While I was being treated for my second back surgery, I mentioned my neck all of a sudden bothering me. A quick x-ray (and later MRI) showed multiple disc herniations, degeneration (c3-c7) and kyphosis, which means the natural curve of my neck is totally opposite of what it should be.
These are MY issues, doesn't mean everyone has them to deal with. by the way, I am 44, and have 2 girls,5 & 8 years od.
Hi girls!Kin-I am taking Fosamax as well-I have been taking it for only about 6 months--My score was 2.5,so at least I am on the border.Unfortunately, our insurance no longer pays for bone density tests (my husband retired,so our benefits changed)-It cost 400.last summer,so I will not be doing that again. But in addition to the Fosamax I take a calcium suppliment, and eat calcium rich foods-walk--Lisa-I admire all of you spineys who have young children-I know it has to be tough. My shoulder and neck hurt all the time, but I don't even want to go there-I think I hold my body tense so much it just tightens things up.I will be glad when I can get a massage!Thank you all!

I have had 2- 2 level lumbar fusions (L2-S1).
