Holy Moly. I just went to my insurance company's website to price the meds my new phyisatrist perscribed - ultram, zanaflex and the flector patch.
Ultram is available in generic form to it only costs me 10 bucks - great. But Zanaflex is $150 for 90 pills!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No way can or will I pay that! Then, I moved on to Flector Patch. Basically 50 bucks for a 30 day supply (1 each day). She scripted me 90 with a refill. I have never heard of these before, has anyone used them? She gave me 2 samples but I haven't tried them yet.
I will ask her for something else besides the Zanaflex. I think my mouth is still hanging open from the sticker shock.

But only in the 2mg - tizanidine. Which strength were you prescribed?
Paul,
I agree. Been meaning to post same, but w/all the excitment, it got put to the side.
Glad to have you here rosetta, I enjoy your replies as they are based on someone from other side of counter.
BTW: Did u get results back from test you took a couple weeks ago?
Ben
Thank you Paul, I really appreciate it!
My meds are approximately over $1000 per month as I have no prescription coverage or good insurance at all!
I went to social security to fill out paperwork to try and get help as I cannot afford that much per month! Bad thing about Wal-Mart's plan, just FYI, they don't use the $4 thing on controlled substances like percocet, etc.!
Walgreens Prescription Savings Club does offer discounts on controlled drugs. Go to walgreens.com and you can find out more details. It does cost 20.00/year for a membership, but it offers far more drugs than the 4.00 things at the other stores. Some drugs are 12.99 for three months (the same ones that are 4.00 elswhere), but the others can be deeply discounted (in some cases, 100s of dollars). But walgreens prices are higher so it may or may not be any better than, say, Costco.
Moderators, if you do not feel that this post is appropriate, since I do work there, then feel free to remove it. I won't be mad
For all of your knowledge and support. She perscribed Zanaflex 2mg. The funny thing is that the script is imprinted with the Zanaflex perscription, with check boxes for the different strenghs 2mg, 4mg, 6mg. Plus she gave me a $25 off coupon for the Zanaflex at the pharmacy. So I conclude that she wants me to only use the brand name???
I know Ultram is generic, as are the Flector patches. has anyone tried the Flector patches with success?
That's a gimmick from a drug rep - does the script say dispense as written, or brand name necessary? If not, generic substituion is permissible, and the pharmacy can contact the doctor to change to generic even it she did say DAW. Somehow I would think that mail order would do whatever they could do switch it to generic anyway.
And no, unfortunately I didn't get my results yet. I can't figure out what the heck my password is to view my pass/fail results yet, and the call center is only open 9-5 Eastern time, plus all the reps there are in India. I missed the time to call to figure out my password, so I will have to wait until next week, or until the letter comes in the mail. I am looking at a pretty hefty raise here, so I am really anxious to get my results. I've been doing so much more work than just a regular tech and I really think I deserve this raise - I am the only one there who's over 22 years old, and having been with the company working in mgt and all the other departments, I know all aspects of store operations, which is really unusual for a tech. Not to blow my own whistle or anything. Thanks for asking!
Oops I forgot, I did have a couple of samples of the Flector patches and I wasn't really impressed - not worth the highest tier of copay! I had real issues with the staying on, and just didn't see much benefit. There is a gel made from the same stuff that is way less expensive, so Kind of want to try that - it is Voltaren Gel and it is only 20.00 even w/o insurance. I've been using just plain menthol muscle rub (the Walgreens version of BenGay) right before I go to bed, and while it's not magical or anything, it is soothing enough that it helps me relax a little and makes it easier to fall asleep.
On the Zanaflex script it says "It is illegal to subsitute this medication w/o doctor's appoval). Or something like that. I don't have the script with me. But since she gave me the $25 coupon I think she wants me to get the brand name.
So I went to the pharamacy yesterday to p/u the Ultram and Flector. Ultram is $10 co-pay, no problem. However, the Flector is $50 co-pay! The pharmacist didn't have enough, he would have my full order by Monday. I went home and tried one of the samples she gave me. Like you, I had trouble keeping the darn thing on and it got stuck in my hair and made a big mess.
I didn't see a big improvement in the pain so I am going to call the pharmacy today and tell them I won't be picking it up.
Unforunately, when we partial like that, we already bill your insurance for it...how much of the 50 did you pay? some insurance companies bill the whole thing up front, others prorate the copay. Not picking up a completion could really mess up the pharmacy and the insurance billing.
