agonizing thoracic pain my my back...

Hi everyone,

I haven't been on here in quite some time-my back seemed to be getting really good..until yesterday, and its been killing me ever since.

It started almost 1.5 years ago. I was sittin crosslegged on the floor, stood up, and felt something in my thoracic area. It was incredibly uncomfortbale and i was pretty much bedridden for about 3 days. I went to a few doctors and physios. I've been to a spine specialist, who told me that he could'nt really see any problems from my c/t mri scans. When i got home from the appointment, i came home and read my results. It showed annular tears, scoliosis, disc bulges and arthritis. I have no idea on the severity of any of these, as the test didnt say.

After about a year, my back started to feel like it was getting a little better...but right now, im laying on a heat pack and i can hardly move. I notced a lump on my mid spine, and the pain is just to the right of the lump. Its a hard lump. My doctor said nothing about it..i know something isnt right-obviously the doctor thinks that me being only 24..my back will "heal itself"...well, its not healing..it's getting me severley depressed. I'll need to go back and get a second opinion obviously..these are the symptoms:

extremely painful area of my thoraic-aboutan inch from my spine (right next to the lump)

weakness/pins and needles in both feet and shins

tension of my back-thoracic and lower

has anyone got these symptoms?

can you goto Emergency?

Thay can usually (in my experience) do another MRI. You may have really hurt something. pulled muscle or something like that. urg, I know the feeling though, I live with that everyday.. I would goto the hospital pronto.. that's just me though.

I hope you get feeling better really soon! Wink

From one Thoracic pain

From one Thoracic pain sufferer to another **** Hugs Hug *** I agree- if you don't have an appt scheduled already you need to get in to see some one.

Plus not sure what kind of spine specialist you saw in the past but if I were you I would call over and get a copy of your recorde now. Find a new doctor- there are a few different choices to look at. You are young and they might brush you off, but you will have to advocate for yourself.

Hang in there,

Julie

Ribs out??

My thoracic spine has been extremely irritated lately, and it turns out my ribs are "out" again. I can feel lumps along the side of my spine, and have had some relief from trigger point injections and acupuncture. When my physiotherapist touches some of those spots, I want to jump through the roof!! There is nothing like thoracic pain, so I sympathize with you. Just when I think it's at its worst, I get that "tightening" feeling, like someone cinching a belt around my whole rib cage. Hopefully you get some answers, and with any luck it's nothing too serious.

I hate pain. Am still

I hate pain. Am still recovering from thoracic and cervical surgeries, still up late at night trying to figure out a way to feel okay about it all. I feel limited and stuck, and very lonely. I'm sorry you're suffering, hope something gets figured out. Until then, ice and warm epsom salt baths are your best friends.

thoracic pain

My thoughts are surely with you, missquin86. Honestly, I am thankful for your response and for this website as a whole. Long story short, I've had back problems for quite a few years now. Had surgery to remove a bone spur and cyst in the lower back last year but am still having problems in the thoracic area. I have similar symptoms to what you are describing. I usually 'swell' in the middle of my back until the end of the day and feel like I lack support there. I have a very hard time sitting for any length of time because I feel like the pressure goes right up my back to the middle. The pain then wraps around my chest. Last fall, I had a thoracic MRI. My doctor (who did the surgery) said a disc was starting to bulge there and recommended an epidural steroid injection. I didn't want to do it because I want to fix the problem instead of masking the pain. My doctor referred me to an ortho dr who specializes more in the thoracic area. After waiting months to get in, he had me get another MRI. Since having to wait awhile for a return appt, I asked for the report to be sent to my family dr. It showed problems at 8-9, 9-10, 10-11 (bulging and spurring starting). Went back to the ortho dr this week and he said the disc looked clear compared to the old MRI. He's sending me to a spine rehab doctor. Who do I believe and where do I turn now? It's to the point that it rules my life...it's like an effort to get through work. Plus, my husband and I have a dairy farm which isn't the best lifestyle for back problems but I deal with that. My husband is very supportive. Thanks to everyone for their postings. This site is nice to have. I appreciate being able to relate to how others are feeling.
