Charlie Horse in toes, left foot. Anyone?

Hi Everyone!
I had a microdiscectomy/laminectomy in Jan. 2011 and again in June 2011 because the pain never really stopped after the first one although it did get much better. Now I have had an epidural injection under sedation which didn't nothing for me. This Friday they are doing an injection around the facet joints. He said there is minimal bone left and he thinks it's causing an unstable spine, hence spine pain. I have a damaged sciatic nerve as well. Left leg - chronic nerve pain, spasms in various areas of the leg. Now I'm having something that feels like a charlie horse in the toes on my left foot. Have any of you experienced this? I've read that it can be from everything going on with the spine/nerve. It's hurts and my toes bend in an upward position. Just wondering if I'm the only one. I injured my back in 2006 so I've been dealing with this a long while without having this weirdness in my toes...LOL. I let the injury go for so long, just treated the pain, inflammation and spasms about once every 3-4 months when I lifted something too heavy or pivoted just right. Had emergency surgery in Jan, then again in June. I'm really tired. I know that some have it much worse than me and I feel like a whiner. I'm just SO tired. I can't get out of bed in the morning without taking pain meds and Lyrica then wait for them to kick in. The neurosurgeon doesn't give me much hope for a 100%, pain free recovery. I have DDD, Osteopenia, Post Lumbar Laminectomy Syndrome and it seems like there's something else but I can't think of what it is. So...anyone else with weird toes??? LOL....Thanks!!

Yep!

Before my surgery I had a similiar thing with my toes on my left foot. They didn't point up, but rather down. I called it "the claw" as all my toes with cramp up and curl under. I would be unable to move them out of that position.Could not feel my foot at all when this happened.

If I tried to uncurl them, they were very stiff and would immediately curl back under. This would last anywhere from a few minutes to an hour and then release. They don't do this anymore, but now they don't really move right. I have foot drop, and really can't move my toes up at all.

So similiar...you are not alone!

Hello Trisha, WELCOME! I

Hello Trisha,

WELCOME!

I too have let my back/neck injuries harbour and have dealt with chronic pain for over 20 years. Now with getting older these things are getting worse.

My story is much the same as Karens....... toes pointing down like hers. Most often it happens for me only in bed along with all the other issues one might have. I am pre surgery still.

Gracie

Looking at my original post,

Looking at my original post, I did say they point "upward". I guess I was in a brain fog because they point down. Sorry, not sure why I said up. It's just two toes, the one next to my big toe and the one next to it. Thank you for all the "welcome"! What a great place this is. I had injections in the facet joints from L3-S1 yesterday. Still have pain but now I can bend backward without it taking my breath away. I have a question, when the Norco stops helping, what then? I take 2, 3x's a day. It used to help but not so much anymore. I have days where I take 3 at a time and I know that's not good. What now? I'm always so afraid I'm going to look like a drug seeker at the Dr's office that I'm kind of afraid to say anything about it. I retired a 15 year career in EMS a year ago due to my back and I've seen a lot of seekers. We can get a bit cynical, ya know?

Glad you posted..

...about the toes. I just thought it was another freakish thing my body did. Smile Glad I'm in good company. Smile

My left foot..toe next to big toe goes way down and last three fan out and go downward. It's so odd like I couldn't do that if I tried.

Re' your pain meds...I would just be open and honest with doc re' pain and your response or lack of response to medication. We can't help what people are going to think and the doctor careing for you certainly would know your painful situation.

When I've been to the ER..I know some of them think it's looking for meds...but I can't worry about that. I just need to be the best caregiver for myself as possible.

Sometimes without personal experience, people are judgemental and just don't get it.

Good luck to you!
