How do we help our parents?

I wish I could really get better and be me the 36 year old the one that helps my parents. My dad have different conditions and when I thought myself as healthy I understood I was going to be the one to help him. Now I feel so sad and in pain that right now don't have the energy. How I am going to help them in the future?

Parents that is.. How would it be to have that concern. Lucky girl - they must be awesome parents!

Sometimes worry to next worry...

...doesn't help much.
There is always the "what ifs" in life, but to get a handle on one thing and worry about another..you will just use your energy in worry and not in healing.

Taking care of parents, children, who or whatever is in our lives can come from guidance and arrangements for others. We do not need to do the actual hands on care and hands on help. We can find someone else to do it and tell them what we expect and supervise that way.There are elder care agencies to help you know what is available much at no cost. and to help you delegate.

Sometimes when worry takes such control...12 step programs can be useful. We tend to think of them as for addiction, but worry itself can become addiction or to help others..the codependancy.

There are groups to join, for totally free, to help us to know our limits.

Often these self help or recovery groups end with saying something like:

Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

A simple little thought like this can help us move along in our life and we not worry so much and more content with what we have. An attitude of gratitude.

Good luck to you as your wisdom develops daily. Smile
