How long does it take for Lyrica to work

Hi Again,
I am in so much pain tonight I just had to have someone to talk to. I went over to my Sister's house tonight to see my great nephews. They are twins and are so adorable. I had not seen them in so long. They are now walking and getting into everything. It was a family get together. I had not been out of the house for a week. Just hanging out with everyone was so nice and yet my pain was getting so bad my husband had to take me home. I have such deep burning pain. I guess it is nerve pain. I started taking Lyrica a few days ago, but an getting no relief. I was hoping it might relieve the burning pain. Does anyone know how long it takes for it to be effective? I'm so sad because I know my family is so worried, but I just can't hide this pain. By the time I left the family get-together tonight I was in tears, and so was my sweet Sister who knows how bad my pain is, but feels helpless because she can't help me. My doctor does not think my pain is this bad, but this deep burning nerve pain is the worse pain I've ever experienced. It is not like muscle pain that I've had and is unrelentless. Feeling really bad. Hope

Hope

I was taking Lyrica for about a year and a half... it was so effective for me. It seems like I was able to tell a difference with the Lyrica within a week to a week and a half. I have pain in my legs from nerve damage. I had a STUPID mix up with my mail order pharmacy and ended up running completely out of Lyrica. OMG,I thought I was going to die from the pain! My mail order pharmacy said I had to try something cheaper than the Lyrica, they wouldn't continue with the it unless I tried something cheaper that didn't work. Three weeks later, I finally got the new medicine, Neurontin, which seems to work very well for me also. I never want to run out again. It was brutal!
I hope you feel better really soon...

Not Sure

about the lyrica specifically but most meds take about a week to get in to your system and for you to start seeing improvement. I know that when I first started taking methadone it took about 7 days. It was weird because I got no relief at all and then got out of bed one morning in no pain. try and be patient and give it a little more time. If your doc does not believe you are in pain you really need to find a new doc asap. If he does not believe you he will not be putting his best effort in to trying to help you. I am so sorry to hear of your experience at the family get together and I can very much relate. My family also worries about me and I try as hard as I can to hide it but sometimes I just can't. I know how painful that sciatica is and really do feel for you. Do you see a PM doc? Have you tried a rhizotomy(nerve burn)yet? That has always given me great relief with the sciatica. Good luck to you and I hope that you feel better soon.

i take lyrica and it took a

i take lyrica and it took a month at least. but mainly because the dr started me out at a lower dosage and then had to slowly increase it until it got to a level that worked for me. you need to work with your dr in order to get the dosage level correct because the level you start out on may need to be adjusted to be customized for you. dont give up!!! it does work and works great for me!

hope this helps!

Leg Pain

The backs of my legs are excruciting pain when I walk and stand, sitting and laying down is OK. Diagnoised with spinal stenosis aggravated by sciatica. Been going on for 2 months now. They are going to do an epidural next Wed. Been thru muscle relaxers, naproxen and I am now on Lyrica for a week with little relief 50mg in the morning and 75 at nite.
Anyone have experience with the shot??

Thanks!

lyrica

Hello, I know what you mean when you are talking about burning pain, and it does hurt like hell. I have been on lyrica for about 1 1/2 yrs and I take 600 mg and honestly I really dont get a lot of relief from it. I also take many other meds and have not found anything that helps relieve my pain. There are days that I go without sleep due to the pain as well. I hope that the lyrica works for you, give it some time cuz it needs to build up in your system and good luck!

Back Pain Relief

Hey chick, i was in the same situation and still am fighting the awkwardness of nerve muscle and bone pain in my spine, i found that pregablin helps alittle with the anxiety that it causes but doesnt necesarily help the pain, ask your doctor about lidocaine back pads, they're like the heat pads you get in the pharmacies , heat unfortuantely although is good for the muscle pain will cause the nerve pain to be worse, these lidocaine pads are prescription only , but they really do help to calm the nerve burning pain, they use the same stuff they use in the dentist to numb your gums. it will calm it down for up to 12 hours. It has helped me alot with getting out of the house and being able to sit still, as you probably have experienced the constant need to wriggle and writhe about to stop it. Also try getting a video on pilates, it strengthens your core muscles and strengthens your spine and the muscles surrounding, its nothing strenuous either. anyway i hope this helps Smile

lyrica

i have personally taken lyrica for nerve pain (the short and skinny - 8 herniated discs and dislocated tail bone), so of course i also had bone and muscle pain along with it. I was taking 150mg 4x daily. honestly i had so much pain from so many different things im not sure the lyrica really even put a dent in it, i got no relief that i could tell and that was in addition to several other meds i was taking at the time. but i also think that lyrica may be more effective with nerve damage from an injury rather than an ongoing issue. personally i got the drunk/dizzy/stoned feeling within an hour on an empty stomach or 3 if i had eaten but that was pretty much all i ever got out of it. it made the pain a bit more bearable but there was never any real relief.

I use to take 300mg of Lyrica 3 times a day...

Down to 300mg twice a day due to the fact I have started taking "Topomax"...It has worked better than anything I have tried yet! Non-narcotic. If Lyrica does not help ask your doctor about Topomax...cant hurt to test drive everything to see what works. Sometimes it might require a combo or more. hang in there!

Lyrica

worked fairly quickly for me - within a week - and I was on it for about two years.

Then my insurance company wanted me to jump through a ridiculous number of hoops and I wasn't about to start over with several rounds of trips to various doctors and PT and asked my PM doc to switch me over to Neurontin / Gabapentin.

It doesn't work as well but there's no way I could go through everything the insurance co wanted me to do. Too much running around, probably a dozen more appointments with doctors, a CT scan AND an MRI plus another round of PT? No thank you.

4 level ACDF, C3-C7 with iliac bone crest graft with hardware on August 22nd.
