the pill police are watching us more closely now

watch out
last night on the national geographic channel they had an expose about pill abuse in the us specifically oxycontin and oxycodone. very biased and no mention about the benefits of these drugs just the abuse of them, ie pill mills florida is apparently the worse of all. watch out just another thing to get the gov't and the media excited. it was unbelievable in the bias. guys shooting up oxy, getting pills in mexico, visit a dr in florida and getting oxy with little trouble. you get the picture. there is no justice with all of this and i believe no way will the media put on an unbiased report about the benefits of pain meds.
now the are getting upset about time released vicodin.

Narco Narcs

I agree Jon. What if as much attention were given to how many of us are suffering with the chronic debilitating pain from which these drugs give some degree of relief? Don't believe I have ever seen a program devoted to that topic ... much more than about 1 minute of 1 or 2 sentences if that! I always say, these "reporters" need to walk a mile in shoes on the other side of the road before they jump up with their "I Have the Story of the Year" deals. Don't believe they could stand it. I no I can't. Been here going on 6 years. Wish I could have seen that program. Will watch for rerun. Thanks for heads up. My history is on my profile. Just click my user name. Take care.

Screw the pill police, We

Screw the pill police, We all need to march in to Oprah show and talk about chronic pain, tierd of only hearing about the drug addicts who take in 1 day what we take in a month for pain,

All the attention is brought on the addicts and how they need help, But you sure dont see much on tv about chronic pain suffering in this world who need help,

Jerry Lewis would be our leading man for he now is the poster child for scs and before he received the scs he was ready to blow his brains out because his back pain suffering was so bad medicarions is only thing that kept him going,

All the srunts he did in the old comedy movie,s with Dean Martin cought up to him when falling off a piano,

I understand

I understand what youre saying, I went to a pain clinic last year and the nurse said that I had methadone in my system, I told her I had never taken any. she treated me horrible, told me I was an addict, and then asked where I got it off the street. I have not taken methadone, she didnt listen, she then proceded to jam two shots in my occipital nerves. I could not move my head for three days. when I tried to call, I was told they would call me if they needed to talk to me. needless to say I DID NOT GO BACK THERE. katlin

Very sad

I cannot believe how some of you are treated in your pain. I have been very fortunate in that my doctor takes my pain seriously. Even though I don't need the medication all that often any more, when I run out and ask, he lets me refill my prescription. Granted, I had a 3-level lumbar fusion, but there are some here who have had much more extensive surgery than me and they are either being cut back or taken down a dose in their meds. I cannot believe this kind of thinking on the doctors' part. I did hear that oxycontin goes on the street for about $80/pill. I don't take that, and, even if I did, I keep my medication for ME, no one else.

$80 a pill? Holly cow,

$80 a pill? Holly cow, And i disposed all the old script when i refused to take oxy,

So if a chronic pain patient decided to take 2 less oxy a day they can actualy subsedise there income by selling the other 2 and make a hell of a good living,

No wonder dr,s have to do blood tests and count pills as i am sure such things do go on,

pain

as some of you know me
i am a big supporter of developing a good relationship with a pain dr. i do not go to clinics, i go to a pain dr. i have had 2, the last retired. if a dr or a clinic treats you like an addict, then go to another one. try word of mouth if you need to. some drs and clinics won't use pain meds others will. i once went to one whom my retired dr referred me to and she basically called me an addict. i founf another one and we have a great relationship because i follow simple rules, don't demand pain meds and don't say naisd's don't help me. bring all test aviable mris, x-rays, nerve tests and disecomy test. have everything that shows that you actually have a problem. if this still does not work, once again find antoher. if you have to go through 5 or more so be it. i have never had a problem with either of my pain drs. they were both very supportive. there are certain red flags to watch out for that drs look for. i just gave a few suggestions. try them

Relationshiip with Doc

I too Jon have a very good relationship with my Pain Management Physician & Staff. They listen to what I say and work WITH me. I am not shy about disagreeing with them either. I did have one of the younger gals tell me that I was just depressed. I told her no ... discouraged. She proceeded to tell me that anyone with chronic pain automatically was depressed. I was not about to explain to a 20 something youngster (no disrespect intended here Smiling )the difference between depresssion and discouragement. I just let it go and moved on. Haven't seen her around there lately. HMMMM?

As I keep saying, it is my body and my pain. Took me about 10 months of different med combinations to get one that does relieve my pain so I can function. There are even days I can drive short distances. I know my limits.

I believe I commented on another post that having a good relationship with your health pros is essential to your pain relief. If you aren't satisified make a change. Best to all and keep on a truckin'.

drs

i think some pain patients go into a new dr with a certain attitude which will turn off doctors. i don't know what it is but it is a sign of desperation and going in with a belief that i am going to be treated like a drug addict. drs read these attitudes with patients and they will test you with questions and also physical exams. i know it might feel like it, but if one goes in with , my pain is the worse i ever had, reads like a red flag. if you are examined, some test they use are not supposed to cause pain but the patient will yell and scream anyway. i know it sounds bad but you are being tested by the dr and how you act will determine how they will feel about you especially pain drs. these guys get hit up all the time for meds and i have been in offices where the patients complain and compare pain stories. i have actually seen the staff roll their eyes when this happens. don't complain to others and don't ask others what they are taking for pain. remember the staff will also talk to the dr about what they hear in the office. i know this should not happen but it does and going in staying quies, smiling and going in with an open mind will go a long ways to helping your relationship with a pain dr.
