Welcome to the board ~

Has your surgeon given you a reason why this happened? I gather this is your second fusion and there are loose screws? How long ago did you have the surgery?

I guess I would find another fellowship-trained spinal specialist who specializes in spinal reconstruction and I would get another opinion from him/her. I would want to be sure that the first surgeon is installing the hardware properly and according to specifications and that the surgery itself was appropriate. I'm not sure I would feel comfortable letting the first surgeon have another go at it.

Good luck.

Thank you for the reply. Well I had a Hydroflouric penn leak in my back pocket and got a burn about 6 inch in dia with no neutralizing shots at the burn center this may have led to the softining of the bone and no docter wants to get involved. They just see money sighs and want to operate with next level of fusion. I had a second opinion but it seems as though they both colaberated when I was at the office and they just backed each other up. I am very dissappointed and fear a second surgery. My right leg freezes up because of the pain. My first surgeon doesnt want to see me until "Im pissing myself or dragging my legs" and doesnt guarantee I will come out of with second surgery any better. Now come on this is B.S. I am seeking another opinion and hope to get a better answer. Thank you tell me what you think. mark

Mark

The general rule of second opinions is to try and go to someone who is not in the same clinic or in general contact with your first opinion.

I traveled 2.5 hrs to get me second opinion when trying to treat my shoulder pain, that trip got me my SCS.

It can be hard to accomplish such a trip for some. the results can be worth it.

If your lucky enough to be in a metropolitan area you may be pretty close to someone who does not interface with your current doctors.

Fusion and Pain

Mark, I had an ACDF back in July and am worse than before, I understand your pain. If I were you I would be careful in falling into another surgery. This is considered major surgery, the consequences are not good. The fact that your doctor does not promise you wellbeing is certainly far from good. He loses nothing by performing this surgery, he gains what he charges for the procedur. Ultimately you will be the one living with it. After surgery there is no going back. I understand it is so hard to live with pain day in and day out. Mark, my hope is that you will give it alot of thought and do some research on such a procedure and figure out if the possibilities with it are greater than what you feel now. Keep us posted and best regards. I understand what you feel. Good luck.
