Burning pain in left side - anyone had this as referred back pain

Hi

I am getting some burning pain in my side (i think in the past i thought it was ovary or something) and my dr put it down to referred back pain (2 yrs ago prior to surgery).

Just wondering if anyone has had this and knows where the pain is referred from. I havent had this since L5S1 surgery and wondering if it is from another disc that is nowhere near as bad but playing up????

Thanks FF

Burning pain?

I happen to have several areas where I feel a deep burning from pain, in my muscles. I'm not quite sure what kind of burning that you are having. Can you explain it any better? For instance, my right side and shoulder have this deep burning pain whenever I overuse them, like lifting a glass! But I can tell that it's in the muscles. I also have skin that is very hot, it actually burns sometimes, I haven't figured out that one yet! It's hard to understand exactly what you are going through. I'd love to help if I can, just need a little more info. Good luck!

oh sorry The best way to

oh sorry Daydream

The best way to explain it is like a kind of irregular pulsing pain internally. So its not on the skin....the only thing i thought it could be was a cyst on an ovary bursting or something like that. Burning or acidic, sharpish pain. The pain does not take my breath away and isnt bad enough to rush to hospital. But i have had it for the last 5 days or so i guess. Because the gp said it was referred from a disc bulge about 2 years ago i did not think i would feel it again (unless it is another disc).

Its not over a large area, more like an intense concentrated pain.

Actually, if you find your left hip bone, its about 1 inch to the right of that.

Gee i am doing a terrible job of explaining it.

thanks anyway for any interpretation you have

I just had a thought....maybe it is just nerve pain...but an internal form rather than the sciatica i was getting. The only bummer is its on the left and the sciatica was on the right! hmmmm....another disc......no please

Hiya

You can still have a nerve pain on the left side , like the siatic pain. Does it feel like siatica?

Hi

I would go to the Dr and get it checked out.
Since is concentrated to the one spot you described.
Could be a kidney infection, kidney stone or could be from your back.
What you describe is what I get from stones.
Just my own personal opinion. Not a diagnosis by any means.
Ya will never know till they do a ultrasound on that side plus xrays.
They also put mine as "back pain" also for years. Till I went forward and said do the TEST!!! and it ended up being my kidney. So always go with your instincts. Yes we go to Drs for guidence but hey sometimes we the patients know a bit more.
When they diagnosed my spondylolthesis all I had was burning pain but it was located at the base of my spine and it spread from side to side. So it was not one isolated spot.
The only way they found this was by doing a xray with me leaning forward and then back.

Let us know how you make out!!!
Take care

Hi Angie No its not the same

Hi Angie

No its not the same as sciatica...it is more like a deeper pain (could be nerve because of the familiar burn sensation).... gee i will go and get it checked out though. Cant help feeling like a wuss... I think you get more aware of your body after surgery.

Thanks too Terry for your advice. Will let you know how it goes.

TerriJV made a good point, as did all...........

I thought about the kidneys too. But I can also see it being nerve pain. So hard to tell! I have an impinged nerve on my right side and my sciatic pain is on my left. So I have it on both sides. And the nerve pain has this awful buring feel to it, really deep inside. It hurts more than any of the other "many" problems & pains that I have. My husband has had kidney stones and I remember once when I took him to the ER that the doc told him that kidney stones can be more painful than childbirth. Wow, that's a lot of pain! You should have this looked into, see a different doctor about it if you can, maybe he'll see it through fresh eyes. You should have some tests done just to rule other things out and so you will actually "know" where the pain is coming from. At least get some peace of mind. Good luck and keep us informed.
