New here. In new city and in real pain and was asking about good Drs. this area. I mentioned a Dr I found on internet. My post had names deleted. I understand that. Then asked if there was another site that might allow names and recommendations. Administrator just messaged me that I should Google to find name!!. Guess I could also use the "yellow pages" I know how to use Google and see list of 50 orthopedic surgeons!! Some are great, some ok and others you would not let touch you. I was looking for some advice from locals on the better ones here. Site will not allow it!!
I know I am being grumpy but I am in a hell of a lot of pain and still trying to find the right Dr to try to get an appt. with. I will look for another site that might be more helpful

I'm not too sure another site would advise with particular name either as that is a law suit waiting to happen.
Even calling like and 800 number in your new home area..they will name off a list of doctors without recommending one.
Word of mouth best..or referral from your other .. primary doc..as primary should know who would match well with you.
Maybe calling your nearby ER...they would give you a list of docs to call.
This site is for info and encouragment..but more of general nature. People from around the world here with their experiences that we share and learn and encouage each other.
I hope you find your pain doc soon as I believe pain managemnt is top priority. It's difficult to think about other advice or instructions coming your way when the pain is so alive in you.
Lastly, picking a doc is not like marriage. If some where along the way you find that you two are not compatible...you can change doctors. And you will have more advice by word of mouth for that.
Take care and I hope you keep in touch.

I almost forgot... on this site..left side near bottom of page...there is an area that read s "find a doctor"...
You would type in your area and kind of doctor you are looking for and hit search.
I never used it, but my bet is that it would give a list of names..not just one who is right for you.
That 'find a doctor" starts with an area close to me, so I'm guessing that for others living elsewhere there is probably "that search" for other areas. I don't really know, you can try.
Hope that helps some.

Slow down there buckweet. We are here to suport everyone but we cant recomend dr,
There are some that advertise on the site that you can look at and consider if you can find one thats in your area,
But we cant toss out dr names on the site, if you find a member here thats in your area you can share info in private pm, on the dr,
Besides would you not rather do your own research on the dr then taking a strangers word for it?
Maybe you get lucky and someone from another website will send you to an animal ortho, Lol. Kiding,
Ok so whats your pain from if i may ask? Back? Neck? We are also just spine patients not a referal service,
Once you find out whats wrong with you many are helpful in sharing what procedure they had for it and what to expect, We are here for suport any time you need it for your pain issues,
But as i said we are not a referal service, We also dont sell real estate, or used cars,
Git-ir-done.

Hey there,
Yes, it can be frustrating b/c you know so many folks here have probably been through similar experiences and may know of a doctor that you can even reach out to for consideration.
On the flip side, b/c we don't know each other personally, our specific scenario, we are not doctors, we may have all had a good or bad experience b/c of how we "personally" approached our situation, the site doesn't want to misguide anyone.
But some good tips I learned:
- ask your general practitioner for a recommendation.
- if s/he doesn't know one, try to pick one that practices at the same hospital your General practitioner is affiliated with. The reason being is because if something goes wrong with your surgery (assuming you end up needing surgery), your GP can come in to be an advocate for you if needed.
- see if your medical insurance or company has a 'health coach line' of sorts. They will tell you doctors in your area that do not have litigation pending, and are in network, and when the next available appointment is. Since you will end up wanting at least 1 additional opinion it's good to have a few choices
- Ask around. I know it sounds silly but when I looked for my 2nd surgeon, I asked local people (at work that I trusted, my friends, and my cousins) - turns out the doctor I chose I didn't expect to like. One of my relatives (hubby's side) is a nurse who asked his co-workers and other doctors who they would use. I got the name of a neurosurgeon at a large learning hospital. Large and teaching hospital didn't sit well but after meeting him, and reading his bio, and combining his approach with the research I'd done, he made the most sense and we both felt comfortable. (mind you: I met total of 7 doctors including my 1st surgeon - and my 1st surgeon was good but just didn't listen to me, another surgeon that came recommended I also liked but felt he was too aggressive for my liking but he would have been in my top 3 b/c of credentials and ability to listen).
I hope some of these tips help.
Oh, was told if you pick an orthopedic Spine Surgeon to make sure they are fellow-ship trained. Not sure what that means but it was advice I was given.
I have finally found a pain Dr and an OS. Did a lot of digging! There were some suggestions that I ask my primary Dr. I would but he is in Michigan and I am in Orlando! I am working out, walking and stretching daily and then taking a Norco and a Valium late in the day. Still funcioning!

Pain dr is a good start, And pain dr can many times recomend an ortho or neuro that they feels is best for your situation,
But giving a beter description of your injury and symptoms might help others relate to your situation on this forum,
If you are still working out then i have to assume you are posibly still in the early stage of pain symptoms and might be able to resolve your issues without surgery hopefuly,
But without posting your symptoms nobody here knows what you are seeing pain dr for,

Wow you have been thru a lot! I am no where near that. Have had my share of other issues to deal with too long to mention. I might- based on your advice- do a new post with some detail on what I have. I have a copy of an Aug 2010 MRI with me and could put in some detail. I think a new post would get read by a lot more members. I am doing all I can to avoid the surgery. Just not sure how much longer that will work.
I can deal with low pain level 24/7 and have for several years. It is the nerve pain I am having now that is really intense. Yet, I have been using weight machines very very carefully and am trying to "keep moving." Can walk about a half mile. Feels good at first but then I start to seize up. Let me know if you think a detailed new post/thread is good idea. thanks for your help

Hmmm, sounds like you need to find a new General Practioner that is local. It's ok to keep in touch with your Michigan based GP but if you are now in Orlando (or split time between the 2 locations) you need to build a new relationship.
But sounds like you are getting there.
Keep us posted.
Here is a link to 'Rate MDs' that may or may not be helpful. I like to have some idea of what I'm looking at if I start with a new doc, and have had some great info shared with me by other pain patients.

You are correct that some other sites or people on forum do recommend doctors but:
* often its is through a paid service as I would probably bet that the find a doctor here does cause I you look in area half doctors are not listed
* Sometimes places like laser spine often send in people to post great things about clinc, but in actuallity never had surgury.
* Do research on malpractice suits or other things I you choose a doctor.
I have been on others and found some great, great surgeons, but I did my due diligence after hearing about them. Also found bad ones.
I consider every forum I ever was on a great asset, but common sense and research is needed more than ever.
