HELP! I don't know what I have. I feel extreme pain when getting up from a lying down position

I need help. I'm 30 years old with extreme low back pain. In a scale of 1-10, I am a 7. Experiencing pain all the time. But it's okay and I can handle the normal back pain.

The extreme back pain comes over the charts a 10+ when I lie down. Just trying to get up from a lying down position (whether it's on my stomach, my side or my back). I become stuck/stiff and every move is very very painful I am unable to get back up/straighten back up without feeling extreme pain. This has been happening everyday for 4 months now.

Right now I am on my stomach in bed with manageable back pain. But once I try to get back up, I can't. Every move is very very painful. I have to slowly take my time while experiencing this excruciating pain. Than I finally get up out of bed. I can't straighten back up to a normal upright position. I have to walk hunched several steps while holding onto the bed (still in pain) until I am finally able to walk straight again. I have to make sure no body weight puts pressure on my back or else it hurts so bad.

Once I'm up its great. I have the normal chronic back pain that I can manage. It's just when I get up from a lying down position/reclined position. Sometimes I sneeze while walking and I feel that sharp awful pain too. It comes as fast as the sneeze, then it disappears. It is so weird. I know many people who suffer back problems but I can not find anyone else or online with this type of problem. Has anyone heard of this? If so what could it be? My Dr. and Neurologist have no clue.

MRI shows mild spondylosis. Epidural bulge. L5-S1 moderately severe disc degeneration. Uptake in bone marrow. The neurologist said these results shouldn't cause this type of pain and he has never heard of such a thing. He says normally people lie down and feel a little better. In my case, it's the opposite. Does anyone else have similar symptoms or know information on what this could possibly be? This is bad. I know something is not normal, it happens all the time. My worst fear is one day I'm not going to be able to get up.

I know exactly what

is wrong with your back! It is your facet joints. I have arthritis in my facet joints and that is exactly what I go through every day. When I get up from sitting or laying it takes me sometimes 20 minutes to be able to straighten up from a bent position. When I get out of bed in the morning, I have to carefully do the log roll and walk myself up with my hands until I can get my feet on the floor. I am still bent over trying to get straight. Have you ever had your back "lock up" on you while walking? I am sorry to hear that you suffer like this because it is no fun at all.

Hi Unknown Issue and Welcome

I was just about to say the same thing. I had facet joint injections last Saturday and feel some relief. Those injections were just lidocaine, I guess he'll do the steriods next if the first shots helped.Do you feel your back grinding? Also if you lean back from the waist and have pain that's a good sign. Anyways, I'm not a Doctor and can't really give any Diagnosis but I'm just sharing my experience. Your Pain management Dr. would help. Have you been referred by your family Dr. yet? take care. Charry

DDD of lumbar spine with sciatica to left hip,leg and foot. L4-L5 posterior disc bulge with prominent facets, L5-S1 prominent facets with a posterior osteocartilaginous bar. Mild bilateral foraminal narrowing c-spine c4-c7 RN

What has helped me the most is the rhizotomy (nerve burn) I usually get relief for about a year before needing to repeat.

HI

Hi Unknown,
I am sorry to hear you are in so much pain. Just to let you know you are not alone I go thru it every day also.. There are times when my 17yo daughter has to help me stand then trying to straighten out is horrendous!!.. I know laying on my stomach makes it feel better but actully makes the pain worse when I get up .. I was told by a Dr this was because I was putting strain on my back by laying on my stomach and to never do it .. so since then I havent .. still cant get up without straining but its better then when I did lay that way. I know my MRI didnt show the same damage as any of my myelograms. You should ask your Dr to do more extensive tests. You need to get some relief. I hope you do .. My thoughts are with ya and all those in pain from their back

6yrs ago. I was getting

6yrs ago. I was getting ready for work and while I was walking to my closet BAM I couldn't move. I felt stuck and in extreme pain. I felt as if I was paralyzed. I screamed for my sister and she came running in the room. I told her don't you dare move me. But we manaaged to get me back into bed. The Pain was so bad I wanted to call the Ambulence. I was scared that if I did call them, They would move me so I chose not too. I just cried and laid still for 3 days in bed. Literally I was in bed for 3days. Good thing I was constipated and I didn't hafto do a bowel movement. My husband literally had to hold a bucket for me so I could go pee. LOL. Awful and Embarrasing but this really happened. After 3days I was able to get back up like norml. So I got an MRI weeks later and results were fine. Showed a Minimal Disc Bulge. I never experienced something like that again until now. Not as severe but close this time it's every time I lay in bed. Thanks for your information, I will research more about facet joints...

I am scheduled for steroid

I am scheduled for steroid injections. My Neurologist wanted to refer me to a Surgeon, but I told him I don't want surgery. I'm 31 yrs old. Plus it's hard for me to understand why he would refer me to a surgeon when he couldn't even figure out from my MRI or explained symptoms what's wrong with me. I felt frustrated and irritated. Wouldn't the MRI have shown that?
Let me describe the normal pain I deal with sometimes, not all the time: It feels like heavy weight on my lower back, crushed bones sometimes, and like it's on fire sometimes. But that's manageable not too bad.
Only when I get up from a lying down position,,, Awful Awful Pain.
Muscle Relaxers are helping a Bit. Vicodin, Ibuprofen, hasn't helped,

WOW. Yes that's how I feel. I'm glad I am not alone, I will research more info on that. And I will ask my Dr. how they can check me for that?

Sometimes shows up

on xrays but sometimes not clear enough to say that is what is causing your pain for sure. Diagnostic injections (to make sure that was what was causing pain) were done in my case before receiving rhizotomy. This was all done through my PM.
