Lower back pain ?

Hi everyone,
I awaken every morning with lower back pain which it goes away by mid day. It’s been more then a week. I had this problem in the past, but it went away, now is back. How do I know if it’s my mattress? My husband doesn't get any pain from sleeping in the mattress.
What should I do?

You haven't mentioned if

You haven't mentioned if you've been diagnosed with anything regarding your back. There are some types of arthritis that hurt more in the morning than later in the day. If your issues continue, you might want to consult your doctor.

Hiya!

As KarenD said, it could be arthritis. Or, you may be right, it could be your mattress.

There are so many things that can cause back pain. You mentioned that you've had it before, but it went away. Have you done any different physical activities lately that may be causing it to happen again? Gardening perhaps? Something you've done at home or at work?

I'm not a doctor, obviously, but it could be muscular so you need to work out if there's anything different you're doing the day before, that causes your pain first thing in the morning.

If it is your mattress, can you visit a big store and accept a new one on a TRIAL BASIS only, for say, 6 weeks without having to pay for it first? At least this way, you'll know whether your mattress needs changing or not. Here in the UK I know there is a big tempure mattress company you can 'try before you buy', but I don't know the right name (and couldn't advertise it on Spine Health anyway). Perhaps changing your pillows could help as well.

If your back pain persists, it might be wise for you to get more professional advice. I hope it won't be too long before you're feeling alot better.

June & July 2005 - Microdisectomy (twice) on L5-S1. Over the years I have also tried: Facet Joint Injections, Epidurals, Radio Frequency Ablations, Discogram, Physio & Hydro therapy, Chiropractic sessions, Pain Management , TENS, Heat/ice treatment, numerous different pain medications, bought specialist equipment, MBT shoes + losing weight etc!!! July 2010 - 2-level PLIF (L4-L5, L5-S1). 26 May 2011 – Had 2 further spine injections for ongoing back pain. Unfortunately I am now back on weekly Butrans patches and Morphine Oral Solution when I need it – I was on these meds before the fusion. UPDATE - had revision surgery (4th) on 22 December 2011 - I had 3 screws and all the hardware replaced. However, I'm still experiencing ongoing back/r buttock pain as before and it's confirmed that I now have Sacro-iliac dysfunction + now awaiting steroid S.I. injection. I still WON'T GIVE UP/IN, but don't ever want spine surgery again, EVER!!!!
