Ouch New Pain, Bruise on my Spine

I thught I would have a nice, relaxing day at the pool. I swam for awhile, then was going to lay on the lounger. When I laid back, I had a severe pain on my spine. I just thought towel bunched up, moved around, and finally gave up and laid on my stomach. I spent around 4 hours in and around the pool. Even after I came upstairs, everytime I leaned back on a chair or couch, my back hurt. Living alone, it takes a contortionist to see my back. I finally scrunched around enough with the aid of mirrors, and see a bruise, about 2 inches long, right on my spinal column. It is really painful. I just applied a lidocaine patch, took Tramadol, and am hoping it will quit hurting. Has anyone ever had a herniated disk that actually caused a bruise on their back? I did not hit it, fall, or remember doing anything that might have caused this. How long before I panic and call my doctor or go to emergency room? I really don't want to do that, but am flying next Sat, and need to be in shape to get on the airplane. Any suggestions for an immediate fix appreciated. Don't want this to spoil my vacation.

Sounds like just a bruise!

Smile hi! we don't always notice when we bump ourselves and cause a bruise. atleaste i don't! if you are not having leg pain or even back pain i would wait awhile. you swam without pain. the bruise itself is painful but don't lay on it and let it go away on its own. of course if you are really worried and there is pain beyond the bruise itself then head to the doctor right away. good luck and don't panic! I had one just like your

It has been 2 months now. The bruise is gone, but it very sore if I lay on any hard surface.

I blame it on the low back problems that I have.

Thanks

Thank yo both for your replies. I made it through the night, but was very uncomfortable. It still hurts like the dickens. Unfortunately I have to go back to work tomorrow, and sitting in a car for 8 hrs is bound to aggrevate it. But my legs don't seem to be any worse than normal, so is probably unlikely I did any permanent damage. Still can't think of anything I did to cause this! Oh well, maybe some light pool therapy will help this afternoon. Have to finish up all housework for the week. With having DDD I was afraid something had gone dreadfully wrong. Why is it we always think the worst!Again, thanks for your immediate responses, it helps to get others input. Things always happen on the weedend, when the only dr available in my (very) small town is at the ER. I hate going there, avoid it if at all possible.

Hugs & Prayers, Maggie
