Hi Claudia,

Neck issues most certainly will effect the arms and hands if it is nerve compression. May i suggest that you look at the video on cervical radiculopathy in the video section. Also you might want to look at a dermatone map as well. If your having issues at c5-c6 it will be the c6 nerve root that you are looking at. But of course doing a emg study can show active nerve issues.

As far as the hands going cold and the pain from it, get that a lot. It is nothing for me to have hand warmers on when it is 90 degrees outside. Typically once I get the heat back in my hands it will stop for awhile.

I am a bit confused how many doctors did you get opinions from today? What did all the opinions say? Due to the fact your MRI is from December new x-rays will give them a idea if the disc height has changed any sense the images were done.

Sitting at a computer is definitely a issue for any spine patient. Try to put a timer in front of you to limit your computer use.

Chills in arms and hands

Hi Claudia.

My spine problems began with the very odd sensation of painful goosebumps on both arms for a few minutes, immediately followed by a very deep cold sensation in them to the point where I had to put on a jacket in my office and then ended with my muscles having a very deep ache for quite a while.

When this happened I didn't know what was happening and thought it too strange to see a doctor about. But not soon after, I started having the most awful deep pain in the middle of my back (muscle spasms) that sent me to my doctor one week before I was to see her for a physical, it was so bad I couldn't even wait the week to see her.

To this day I still get chills in my arms and my surgeon swears it couldn't be coming from my cervical spine, but I believe it is and stand by that thought to this day.

So, like Tam, I also still experience chills in my arms every day.

Hang in there and do what you need to do. We're here for you and understand how difficult it is to be facing cervical problems after dealing with lumbar problems and surgery.

Take care and please keep us posted.
