nerve conduction vs. EMG

I had my EMG testing done on Tuesday this week and realized after the test that I had both a nerve conduction test and EMG test done. The nerve conduction test involves electrodes and a device that sends electric shocks. The EMG was the more painful part and there will be needles involved. Nothing really traumatic, but the worst pain was on the palm below the thumb. If you are currently suffering from pain, the testing is really nothing that horrible.

2011 ACDF C5-6 for Spondylosis with Myleopathy
2012 L4-5 herniated disc and hernated disc at C4/5
2013 Diagnosed with leg length discrepancy of 9mm (right tibia shorter) and wearing heel lift with mild scoliosis
2013 Taking Amitriptyline for headaches

NCS & EMG

I had a Nerve Conduction Study as well as an EMG at the same time. I had C5/6 herniated and this was a requirement before my ACDF surgery. I hate needles! I had a really nice lady Dr. who was very gentle. For me it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I do remember being sore for about a day after.

The needles they use for the test are really small...if that helps you.

re: thank you for reply, it does

I had ACDF C 5/6 (1 level) in December so it's been 3 months. I just really started feeling comfortable turning my head much about 1 month ago. My surgeon told me not to test my neck to see how far it can turn so I haven't tried it out! LOL I do notice that I can't look up much. I can turn side to side and down now without noticing. When I drive I still turn my shoulders rather than just my head.

I'm in my twenties. I went back to an office job after 2 weeks and now I'm in college full time and work part time. My surgeon told me my body is paying for me overdoing it! I have an achy neck somedays still.

Neck collar

I didn't wear a collar at all. The surgeon told me my bones were strong and I did not need to get dependent on a collar.

I don't know if this belong

I don't know if this belong here but anyway...

I had a laminectomy and a spinal fusion in my lumbar section, the first in february 2011 and the second in late september of the same year. Neither of them helped, right now I am still on pain killers. Not a dope head but taking at least one oxycodone/day. Now is the time for nerve conduction test. I am pretty pesimistic of the results, but I am still walking which is a good thing.
