neural foraminal impingement

hi,
Is neural foraminal impingement nerve compression? can someone please define it for me. thanks.
I have severe ddd at c5-6 and neural foraminal impingement at c5 c6.

I have a diagnosis of fibromyalgia and migraines as well. hard to say if cervical issues are cause of my pain and some other symptoms.
my pain is very severe. an 8 without medication. i'm currently taking opana which helps somewhat yet it's recently begun to sedate me. I've tried many interventions and treatment for pain. steroid injections, acupuncture, fentanyl, neurotin, Topamax, morphine, dilaudid, methadone the list goes on and on.

my life has been destroyed by this pain. most of the medications didn't make a dent and a the few that worked caused debilitating side effects.

I recently relocated to a new state and my medicare just kicked in so i'll be seeing new docs.
one previous doc at leading teaching hospital thought cervical issues were cause of my most severe pain and other symptoms yet several others did not.

I've been told I have upper motor neuron symptoms,
arms glued to body, limited mobility and use of arms (not always but often)
hyperreflexia
clonus legs but not ankle
pain shoulder, arms and hands x-ray ruled out frozen shoulder or rotator cuff injury
muscle stiffness, stiff knee (it locks), difficulty walking after in the morning and after other periods of immobility I can barely walk. I have almost no forward momentum, there's sideways motion (ape-like) and stiffness.
muscle spasms
from what I've read and photos I've seen i'm convinced that this is accurate. I look like the poster child.

I have pain in my neck/throat area - stiff burning, gnawing, raw. it's 2/47 and very severe
back of neck (stiff) occasionally
arms - many hrs a day; hands
legs, especially lower legs

it's hard to discern what causes what and if the cervical issues are the root of any/some/much of my pain.
i'm going to ask about an SCS trial.

can DDD and impingement cause some/many of these symptoms?

there's so much ambiguity as to what causes my pain.
my symptoms started 4 years ago and I've seen too many doctors (from various disciplines)

doctors don't seem to care much about a middle aged woman in pain especially if traditional treatments are ineffective.

any thoughts/ideas would be appreciated.

thanks very much!

my post is a bit of a

my post is a bit of a rambling mess yet I do hope some respond. my title should really be nothing works. the cramping burning pain in my neck/throat area is pure agony. while pain in other areas - arms and legs - can be severe i can survive it. but the neck pain is a different matter. again if anyone has any thoughts i'd be grateful

Hi and welcome!

I am sorry that you have so much pain and that it is mixed with several health problems. That always makes reaching a diagnosis more complicated.

To answer your question,
Is neural foraminal impingement nerve compression?
The answer is yes. The foramen is the hole in the spine that the nerve roots exit from the spinal cord to the rest of the body. You have impingement, or compression of the nerve at this point.
I suggest that you read the very good articles in the information part of this site to help you to understand what is going on. Reading the articles will also help you to have a more helpful conversation with your doctor about your problems.

I am posting some links which I hope will help to get you started:
