I was diagnosed (MRI) with a herniated disc L5/S1 several years ago and the symtom was mild back pain. I was prescribed physical therapy, and I exercise whenever I can. The pain decreases over the years, so I thought I was getting better.
For unknown reason, the pain intensified last month. But I don't want to just lie around and get weaker, so I continue to exercise (play table tennis) once a week. Two days ago a new symtom appeared after I exercise: pain and slight numbness in one leg from the hip down to the foot. The first night it wasn't too bad I could still sleep. Last night it got worse and I woke up several times because of the pain. I'm guessing this is sciatica. This pain is several times worse than the back pain.
Who is the best doctor or clinic/hospital to help? Should I look for a sports medicine doctor, a neuroscience doctor, an orthopedic surgeon, or ???
Is board cerfication by american board of spine surgery any good? I checked the doctors in virgina mason spine clicnic and not one of them has this cerfication.
Has anyone been healed by decompression from a chiropractor?
How about sciatica exercises? I did them but there's no effect. E.g. one of them is lie on stomach and prop up the upper body with arms while hip stays on the floor.
I don't suppose there's any way to get quick relief from sciatica?
Rest in bed as much as you can and generally don't push it before you see a doctor (spine specialist).
