I had a laminotomy and microdiscetomy on my L4-L5 region of my back in October of 2010. Prior to surgery I had terrible pain radiating from the spot of the disk, down my left hip and continuing into the left calf with numbness in my toes. Surgery has removed all pain and numbness in my left side, however now I am dealing with a dull pain in my right hip and right calf. The pain started a few days after my surgery and has been on and off since then. Pain usually lasting for a few days and then going away for a day, and coming back. My flexibility has improved since surgery after relentless stretching and back strengthening. Stretching doesn't seem to increase the pain at all so I doubt the disc is still protruding. I do notice when I push my buttocks and hips outward I feel a pinching on my right side and increased pain in the upper butt area typical with sciatica. Has anyone else had a similar pain? Is opposite side pain typical after surgery? I know nerves take a long time to heal after surgery, but my original pain is gone and this is a new pain on the opposite side.
