Strange sensation in coccyx when i lower my head (chin to chest)

Hi

Sorry if i've posted this in the wrong section, but it's hard to describe where the problem actually is.

I have been having a very strange sensation for about 3 months now everytime when i lower my head to look down (chin to chest), for example when taking a pee (i am male by the way). I keep getting a strange pulling around my coccyx and sometimes on the back on my legs at the rear of my thighs (hamstrings). In fact the sensation stated at the back of my legs about 3 months ago and is now at my coccyx. It's almost as if something is pulling from the base of my coccyx and causing it to go numb instantly. This happens when i am stood up or when i am sat down.

For the record, i don't have chronic back all the time, but i have in the past hurt my back and had to rest up for a few weeks as i couldn't walk. A friend at work suggested that this may be sciatica, but i'm not sure that it is.

Just wondered if anybody suffered from the same problem or maybe hazard a guess as to what might be causing it.

Thanks

Strange sensation

YES! I had the same thing, and it also pulled in the sit bone area of the buttock. It was a nerve compression at L5 S1! I had surgery, and it was a severe compression. You should get a MRI at least to rule anything with your back out. Also, a call to the Dr. would be in order! I had it for about 3 months, and it was the first thing that was gone after my surgery. I had a laminectomy, and foraminotomy at L5 S1, and the S1 nerve root was the worse. Good luck, sweetpotatoe57

Quick Reply

Thanks for the quick reply sweetpotatoe57, i don't know that much about backs so i will have to have a read up on that area. Can i just ask one thing though? Did the compression you had ever make you feel like you needed the toilet all of the time?
Mine has just got to that stage now and i'm concerned that something else sinister is going on. I've been to the doctor and have had blood tests which all come back fine, but i will try to get her to get me an appointment for a MRI scan.

Thank you

Yes, I did have to go to the bathroom alot, and after my surgery, that did stop. I then thought something was wrong that way! If I even bent my head forward, I got the pull, and my PT said surgery was coming just in time, as it was a severe compression at that point. I had lots of pain, and couldn't sit, or walk well, lots of weakness in my leg. How about you? Definitely a MRI is in order, and a call to the Dr. Not sure if that is going on with you, but that did happen to me! sweetpotatoe57

Also wondered if you hurt your back at all? It could also be some really tight muscle's, but always best to let the Dr. decide! sweetpotatoe57

hi 73bugz

hi....sweetpotatoe is absolutely correct. you need to check this out and quickly. when there is a problem with the excratory system that may be back related it is considered an emergency because continued pressure on the spine can cause a permanent damage. the movement of your chin downward pulls on the covering of your spinal cord and that telegraph signals from pressure below. i would move quick on this....pete
