T5/6 t6/7 t7/8 and t8/9 herniated discs

Help! I have herniated discs in t5/6, t6/7, t7/8 and t8/9, the t5/6 indents the cord as does the t6/7 the t7/8 has a bone spur with a left para central herniated disc protrusion. I am in so much pain, now I don't know what to do, ESI I guess is next. The t5/6 has a right para central herniated disc which indents the cord and extends into and narrows the right neural foramen, any advice for my back? I just went on the Butrans patch for pain, I can't take it anymore!

Hi Lela1122

I have always had lower back pain and 3 lumbar surgeries. I started having mid back pain that radiated around left ribcage and upper left abdomen. Though I had heart problems but after all tests including heart cath came back normal I thought I was losing it. But I had a wonderful family doctor who I also work for that said well if it is not heart than we will check the back since I did have pain. The x-ray showed some changes so I was sent to my NS once again who ordered MRI and CT scan which showed herniation at T7-8 level and bone spurs and spinal stenosis. The CT showed calcification so I was sent to a specialists at Duke because no one in Western NC does thoracic surgeries with calcification. I tried PT, steroid injections as well as oral, inflammatory medications and pain pills...nothing helped. I met with surgeon to see what options I had and he said, they only send you to me if spinal cord is compromised so surgery it will be. I am almost 6 weeks post-op and still having severe pain. They think I reherniated the disk which can be common in thoracic spine. I was blessed to be placed with good doctors who believed me and did not give up until they found the source of all my pain. You need to not take no for an answer. You have to fight for your healthcare. After 8 months of pain, I was relieved when I finally had surgery even though I am still having problems, but everyone is different. I hope you find relief for your pain and would love to hear back when you decide what you are going to do....Good luck

Thanks kamgram I am scheduling an appointment with a neurosurgery specialist in Tampa Florida, I have had this mid back pain before my acdf 2 years ago, it started long before that but I thought the acdf would help my mid back pain, but nooo... I will let you know, thanks for answering, it's just so scary that I have so many locations herniated in my t spine, those of us with these type of back problems are rare! I hope you can get oer your pain too, it's no fun to hurt all the time, I know been there done that!

Lela I know what your going

Lela I know what your going through! I have all the same herniations in my thoracic as well as stenosis!!!! They say they won't hardly operate on the t spine bc of the danger. The pain is excruciating! You didn't say your age but I'm 38 and it seems like there are no pain free days for me for the rest of my life! I also have many herniations in my neck and lower back but this t spine is by far the worst! My ribs are killing me, my stomach also. I have chest pains and feel like I'm having a heart attack and can't breathe! Who would have thought a back issue could cause all this? I am so sick of it and I never feel good anymore and I can't even walk across Walmart. I have degenerative joint disease and arthritis also. This really stinks and I go to bed every night and wake up feeling worse than when I went to bed! My fiancé is very good to me but it seems like nobody understands. I guess I stay a little on the agitated side bc I'm so sick of waking and going to bed like this! If anyone has any suggestions on anything that might help even temporarily please let me know !!!!

Hi Kristy, I too have the

Hi Kristy, I too have the pain in my chest, it wraps around to my stomach, my shoulder hurts all the time as well as my right arm, the scapula area hurts almost all the time, what pain meds are you on? I know I can't take it either, every single day I hurt, also the headaches from my back being so tight it travels up into my neck, I underderstand how you feel, I use heat all the time when I have time to sit down and relax my back, I tried to get a referral to USF with a doctor that operates on the thoracic but they won't see me because they can't do anything with surgery, I found that out yesterday and I am devasted! I am 46, I had neck surgery at two levels two years ago, and I thought that surgery was going to make me all better, but nooo...private message me anytime! Feel better!

I can relate ... it is overwhelming

MRI just found moderate size right para central disc herniation at T8-9 with cord impingement. Left foraminal stenosis at T6-7. I am waiting to see a Nero Surgeon but told it could be months.
What do I do now? I am trying different things but have no idea if what they are doing is helping ... Acupuncture, electric muscle stimulation... I still have chronic pain though I get through my days with help of meds. At 45 yrs I am feeling overwhelmed with this back pain and that it doesn't get better. I also get chest pain and was sent off to the cardiologist - heart is fine. Also sent to see if I had kidney or gallbladder stones - nope. Seems it is all related to the back.

ruptured t 6-7

I feel your pain. I am on ice all day everyday. It doesn't stop the hurt but changes it when it gets cold enough. I see the surgeon today at 11. To a guy that I feel doesn't hear me. I've had to invite a advocate from the state insurance commission in with me. I can't think fast enough to answer his questions and silence is agreement. I wish you only the best!
