upper severe back pain with lump

Hello,
I have been trying to find what this lump on my back might be. It is on the right side of my spine and it sticks out about 1/2". Over the last year or so, I have had problems laying on my back and have found that I have to change positions to accommodate this pain. It began feeling like something was pinched and was very painful. Over the last 2 weeks I cannot lay on my back at all... it is excruciating. When I do lie on my back this lump feels like it is pushing my ribs out of place. The lump feels hard and firm on the inside to me. I cannot reach this area myself to actually feel it. Sitting bothers it but, it is tolerable. Lying is impossible.
I do suffer from Decrum's disease but, this lump and its pain is not anything like the Decrum's lumps and pain at all. Where the Decrum's lumps are fatty and mobile... this is hard and unrelenting. When I lay down it feels like it is trying to push clear through my chest.
Having looked on the web for many months for some inkling of what this could be, I find that I am continuously lead back to your site.
I know you cannot diagnose this but, I would appreciate some links or information to further my investigation into finding out what this may be.
I do have heart problems and COPD.
Please don’t tell me to see my GP, I lost my insurance in 2007. I am looking for herbal meds to help the immense pain in the meantime.
Any information, sites, links, at all you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I am sorry for your situation, and pain. Has the lump grown over time? I know by your comment that you do not have insurance, but self-diagnosis can be dangerous. Are there any free clinics in the area you live in? Who is taking care of your COPD, heart and Decrums?

I have had multiple lumps removed over the years myself, all benign tumors, but boy they can be so painful. The spine is such an are not to mess with.

I hope the best for you.

Hello

and welcome to the forum. I am so sorry to hear of your situation but I have to agree with Baffled on this....self diagnosis can be very dangerous. Like Baffled asked , are there any free clinics or any other type of maybe state help that you can apply for? I did a quick search about lumps and it came up with a myriad of things that it could be and none of us are doctors so there is no way for any of us to even begin to tell you what this could possibly be. I know that you said not to say for you to go to your GP but I am afraid that would really be your only true starting point. Having a professional check this out.

I wish you the best of luck in whatever you decide to do and I truly hope that you are able to come up with some answers. Please keep us posted as you can and remember that we will be here for you with support and understanding , you don't have to go through this alone. If there is anything that I can ever do for you then please just let me know....take care....Miki

Dear Baffled

Thanks so much for your reply. I have been educating myself on herbal meds over the last 2years and have been using them for my needs. So far nothing much has really helped. You learn to live with allot of pain. Or I should say... You just to live with the pain.
I have been to several free clinics in the area and they all tell me I have too much wrong for them to be able to help. They won’t even touch my high BP! lol I know its really hard to believe... but, it's happening. And its a reality that is becoming far to common for thousands of folks like me. I cant get to a Dr. to finish the Decrums diag. or any of my other problems which have all be documented over the years... so, I cant apply for SSI. I am between a rock and a hard place.
I will end up living with (and have been for some months) this excruciating lump as well as everything else wrong with me like so many people now have to do.
Thanks again for your reply it is deeply appreciated.

Additional information

I guess I should have also added that approx30 years ago I had a parachute accident. My chute collapsed approx 65ft above the ground. I landed on my feet. The impact brought a atom bomb explosion through my entire spine. I ended up having to have both keens operated on because everything was jammed up and no circulation was getting to the bones. And I fractured two lumbar disc’s. Since then I have been diag. with narrowing of the spaces between the disks, 2 lumbar herniated disks, a disc that is wedged on the sciatica and other things I cant remember (its been too long since the last MRI).
But, this new pain in my upper back has been going on for the last year or so with the lump forming within the past week.
I have never had any problems with my upper back since the accident so, I am not sure if this is related or not at this point. But, I think if it was… it would have shown its self a while ago. I could be wrong though.
Just wanted to provide additional information.
And thanks to whom ever put up the archives. I have been paging through them and am finding them very helpful.
Thanks a bunch.

Try Again

I'm new here too. Hope you find relief.

What about going back to the free clinics. All of them if necessary! Don't mention any of your other problems at all. Just the Lump!

I have had cysts removed and my mother has had many more. Sometimes even though they are fluid filled it gels over time and gets very stiff and feels solid. Mom has had them on her hands, wrists, balls of her feet and in and about her spine.

Perhaps that is all it is and it can be removed or even drained to buy you some relief?

It could be something else, but maybe that is all it is.
Let's hope so!
