Back pain, Back surgery
Hello, I am new to this list. I have been diagnosed with a synovial cyst (L5). The cause of the cyst is facet joint degeneration. I had the cyst aspirated and have had several steroid injections but the pain comes back in about three weeks. My pain doctor is having me see a surgeon. Has anyone had a synovial cyst removed and if so, did your surgeon just remove the cyst or did he/she fix the cause?
A bit scared! How was your outcome?

PM when you get a chance to discuss this. I know very little and i think we both can leazrn from each other!
In February I had an MRI which showed a small (a sliver) synovial cyst in the left L4-L5 facet joint. In the past 2 months I have gotten very severe 'sciatic' type pain in my lower spine and left buttocks. My NS had me go for another lumbar MRI which was done yesterday. The MRI won't be read by the radiologist until Monday and my NS won't have the report until later in the week. I know the tech who did my MRI so we went thru the pictures after the procedure was done. neither of is a doctor but I think that 'sliver' has grown into a 6mm synovial cyst. (BTW: I am wrong trying to read the MRI but I can't help myself and i m usually wrong when I do this!!!!!)

Cervical myelopathy, 16 surgeries to date, Severe OA, bilateral knee replacements, DDD, 13 MRI’s, 4 sets of spinal cortisone procedures and dozens of cortisone shots in other areas for OA. Upcoming scheduled surgeries include laminectomy and removal of synovial cyst located at left facet joint of L4-L5 (may require fusion); Right resection of A-C joint (left was done 12 years ago, by far the most painful of all my surgeries)
