Hi and advice sought after microdiscetomy
Hi - my partner had a microdiscetomy 14 days tomorrow. The sciatic pain has gone but now he is experiencing great pain and a feeling of coldness in his ankle. He had a bulging disc L5 S1 which I understand is pretty common. Is his pain and lack of mobility now common. Even though he was in extreme pain for 4 months before the op he still went to work - had to take painkillers and psych himself up every day. He was at work all day before the op. Now he struggles to walk less than a 1/4 mile and back. Any feedback would be welcome.
Regards
Katrina

Have him call the surgeon and let him know.Although pain and pins/needles like sensation is common after surgery,it won't hurt to call the doc.Besides, two weeks is veeery early in recovery.
Hope he feels better soon!
Cheers,G.
10 yrs of back pain,MicroD at L4/5,12/22/07.Spinal infection post op,still recovering.Bulging discs L2/3/4;Central protrusion at L5/S1.Other than those,no complaints from life,or whatever is left from it....
There's someone in my head, but it's not me...
is still very early in the recovery process. I had much worse pain after surgery than before. You must give the nerves and disc time to heal and recover. Good luck and keep us posted on his progress.
