On 2/26/08 while I was leaving work I fell down 14 stairs. When I woke up I found myself lying on the stairs with my left leg hyper-extended. My head was resting on my left calf with the foot and ankle twisted. I was “very lucky” and did not break anything.
Since the accident I have had numerous x-rays, an ultra sound and an MRI of the left hip/groin/ankle/foot. (I have to do all of this with a Worker’s Compensation doctor) I spent almost 3 months on crutches and have been attending physical therapy, as allowed by the worker’s compensation adjusters. The doctors and surgeons that I have seen are basically telling me that there is nothing medically wrong with me. They are classifying this as a “hyper-extension, sprain/strain” injury.
I am having constant, achy pain in my left hip. I have mild to severe pain in my left groin and occasionally there is a popping sensation in the left groin.
I am curious to see if anyone else out there has had an experience similar to mine. I am very concerned that the doctors are not telling me the whole truth about my injuries. I have heard from a number of other PT patients, who have had experiences with my same “team” of doctors, who were told that they had no serious injuries and now have had to have hip/knee replacements. My physical therapist has warned me that I may be looking at a hip replacement in the next 5 to 10 years. I am 28 years old. I cannot sit or stand for long periods of time and experience constant pain. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I would truly appreciate any information.
Thank you.
