Pain, mri, and how to cope

Hi All,

My MRI showed something (I can't remember what it was) between L5-S1 that is going to require surgery. The pain in my sciatica is increasingly worse and the pills don't help. I won't see the surgeon until December 18 and then surgery will be 2 weeks to 2 months after that. I wonder how I can handle this pain for much longer. I am short tempered with my husband and I can't run after my 4 year old daughter. Honestly it is really getting to me. I know you all have been through this. Any tips?

Pain Meds?

Have you considered asking your doc to change your meds? You might want to explain that your current meds are not helping the pain and how it is effecting your life.

Other than that the only thing that I can think of is ice 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off to your back. Some folks prefer heat but if it is inflammation it will respong better to ice.

I hope that you find some type of relief soon. Good luck and keep us posted.

Sorry you are in so much

Sorry you are in so much pain Sad

Are you seeing a pain Dr or someone other then the surgeon? If so have you told him/her about your pain being so bad?

Yes Dec 18 is a long ways off when you are in such pain.

You need to be in touch with someone to help you.
