Has anyone tried either the eggshell foam mattress topper or the tempurpedic type mattress toppers? I am in quite a lot of pain during the night that I'm considering adding one of these to my bed. I'm not sure if it would help or not.

hi
i am from the uk and my wife and i have bought a top of the range tempur bed and ma tress ..we both hate it as it is too hard for me {i am the one with back trouble } and my wife describes it as dead.we also have a cheep mattress and we put a generic memory foam topper on it from ASDA {walmart} and it better than the tempur.but the one we like the best is a VELDA pocket sprung with a layer of medium density memory foam built on to the top on the mattress and the mattress are on a dual electrical adjustable frame ...fantastic! my advice ..if you can get an electrical adjustable bed [you can get them in pairs and put them together so the become a king size bed}if not get generic memory foam overlay tempur are too expensive in the main memory foam is memory foam .if there is a shop near you that sells VELDA go and try one of there beds

Hi Lynn from Florida,
This is Judy from Florida (LOL). I fell in love with featherbeds but got sick of the feathers coming out. Bought something like a featherbed (same thing without feathers/other kind of stuffing) from J.C. Penneys and absolutely love it. I'm tall, lanky and boney and having to spend so much time in my bed due to sciatica, this has been a godsend. All the tossing and turning I do to get comfy is fine because however I move to get comfortable with the pain, I'm snuggly on my mattress topper. Penney's is always having sales and with their coupons you could pick one up for reasonable cost.
The down side is my little dog loves it too and always picks the center of the bed as her favorite spot -- darn dog!
Hope this helps,
Judy
2010 Update: Sciatica resolved itself but still dealing with fibromyalgia symptoms that come and go. Walking 3 miles a day, fibro permitting.
2011 Update: Back to work since June.
Herniated disk (L5) no surgeries to date, super nasty nerve pain, left leg. 3 epidurals (Jan, Feb 09) (Short term relief) June 09, Second opinion from Ortho doc with new MRI -- not a surgery candidate -- referred to pain management doctor.
I have a 3" memory foam topper on my mattress. I got it years back when my hips were killing me after sleeping. It really did help... for awhile, but I have SI joint inflammation and hip arthritis due to Ankylosing Spondylitis. I really want a memory foam mattress on an adjustable bed. We have a CA King frame that's beautiful- was a 12th wedding anniversary present from my hubby, and I don't think an adjustable bed will work with it.
Diagnosed Ankylosing Spondylitis 2009. Arthritis in most of my back. Diagnosed Fibromyalgia 2008, T12-L1 herniation T10-T11 bulge, L1-L2 Bulge, L3-L4 bulge, L5-S1 Lumbar discectomy 7-08: severe nerve damage as a result. 32 years old with 4 "special needs" children.
i purch a mattress topper and paid $299, 3" thick, it has been the most unocmfortable piece of my bed. i have a bad low back L5 S1, Herniated disk
i gave it 1 yr and i just took it off the bed
it is going to the dumpster
with 5" of memory foam and 6" of foam. I have it on my box spring although they say it's better without. But I like the support. It's so soft and the pillow also. I bought it last year summer and it's better than any bed I've ever had. It's around the same price as a regular ortho mattress but works way better. Good luck with your decision. Charry

Why don't you take advantage of the tempurpedic mattress discount they have at m ? My dad bought 2 of them. One for me and king size one for the master bedroom. The difference can be seen from the first night you use it.
