Sleep Specialist

Well, I have my first appt. with a sleep specialist tomorrow. I have NO clue what to expect. I have all my results, journals, and medication logs ready.

My mind is just spinning. I know this is my last chance at finding help. I am so hopeful he can help and just as scared that he can't.

I feel like I am on the edge of a major anxiety attack. I already took 2mg of Ativan before to help calm down.

I just don't think I can handle another let down!!! This is it. Last chance, last hope.

Sincerely,
Camille

As Charry

stated, more than likely they will want to conduct a sleep study. That can determine different sleep disorders, one being sleep apnea.

Appt was cancelled

Dr. had a family emergency. I was rescheduled for this Monday the 27th.

I already had the sleep study done. It didn't give any reason why I can't fall asleep just that I can't and don't sleep effeciently when I do. No apneas either.

So, just waiting again.

Will update after appt.

Sincerely - Camille

Had my appt.

Well, we went over my sleep study first. He was VERY thorough. He even gave me a detailed exam and actually touched me (unlike my previous PM).

He said the main reason for me not sleeping is that my pain is not controlled. He thinks anxiety is the secondary reason.

He wants me to get off the Fentanyl patch (since it obviously is not helping) and get the reflux under control.

I have to see him again in 3 weeks after I see the new PM and hopefully get this reflux better.

I feel so much better.

Sincerely - Camille

I'm glad that you feel better now that you had your appt and got over that hump in the road. Hopefully, you can get your pain under control and get some good quality sleep.

Did you have to stay overnight at the sleep study place? I had to do this for my first time Saturday night. Since my surgery and starting mscontin (now on kadian), I've been snoring something fierce. I keep my husband up all night and even bother my kids. I've resorted to sleeping out on the couch but my husband can still hear it and keep him up even though he has the bedroom door closed and the tv on to dround out the noise. I've suffered from insomnia for over 7 yrs now but that didn't seem to bother me as much as the snoring did. I now try to stay up as late as I can to give my husband a chance to sleep without me waking him up since he has to get up and go to work and I don't. The only downside to this is that I have to get up with my kids in the morning so I'm exhausted all day and usually fall asleep for about 2hrs during mid morning.

Sorry for rambling on. If you did sleep overnight, did you find it even harder to fall asleep knowing there's a camera on you and someone is watching you all night and the worst was all the wires I was hooked to. It took me forever to get that paste washed out of my hair.

Wishing you the best.
Michele

about sleep study

My appt was for 10pm. I got to leave at about 7am. I actually didn't find it any more difficult to fall asleep than usual. I just kind of thought of it like sleeping in a hotel. I brought my own pillow and a book to read.

All the wires were a pain but I didn't have to use the mask thing. I think the mask would have definitely been an issue for me.

My nurse was extremely comforting so, I didn't really mind that she was actually *watching* me sleep.

My sleep study experience was great. I really had no problems. I just wish it didn't take me so long to fall asleep and that I could've slept longer but I wish that every night! Smile

Did you stay all night?

Sincerely - Camille
