popping in...

Just checking to see if you gals are getting any sleep tonight. By the looks of it, you are struggling also. Usually I don't have THIS much trouble falling asleep after the sleep meds, but I have been in a really bad way all day so that may be why I'm still awake. The fibro is kicking my tail hard tonight!
Hope you all find the magic sleeping position and get some rest! Check you later...

No sleep

I'm up too. The pain is "kicking my butt" too, and I just can't relax. Trying everything, but so far nothing is working. I'm about ready to give in and ask my doc for something to help me sleep at my next appt (the 17th). Anyway, maybe sleep will come eventually. It is comforting to know that I am not alone, but it would be nice if we could all get a good night's sleep.

Feb 2006 did something really stupid and injured my neck. After all sorts of conservative treatments, I had a 3 level ACDF C5 to T1. Complications from that surgery led to partial paralysis and a long battle to get back to where I am today. Unfortunately, I did not fuse correctly. May 08 I had a revision to the surgery, including both the anterior and posterior approach, 2 vertebrectomies, and much titanium in my neck. I am still taking it day by day as I learn to deal with the residual effects of the spinal cord injury and permanent nerve damage. I'm here to offer support and encouragement to all the newcomers. Feel free to PM me if you want to.

awake...

Neck~
Sorry you are struggling with the dreaded insomnia tonight. I hope your doctor will give you something to help with your sleep... Do you have problems falling asleep, staying asleep, waking because of pain, or all of the above? I pretty much have all of the above, which stinks! I'm sure wishing my AmbienCR/Rozerem combo would have worked tonight. I think I may be feeling anxious because my breathing is a bit labored because of the fibro flare and so I'm afraid to go to sleep and not get enough air! I'm not really sure...
Maybe we should try standing on our head until we pass out! NAH! Bad idea! I'll just wait it out!!

_____________

Terrie

lol

standing on my head would NOT be a good idea. I'd break my neck even more...

In answer to your question, all of the above. I toss and turn because of the pain, sleep a couple of hours at a time, but through the months and years I have gotten used to it. Tonight is particularly hard because the burning nerve pain is worse, and I just can't get comfortable whether I am in the recliner or in the bed or on the couch. I'm exhausted though, so I'm going to go try again. I have been trying to avoid a sleep aid, but if things don't improve soon, I'm going to request something. I also have a headache tonight, and I know if I could sleep a bit it would help.

Sorry you are having a hard time too. I hope you are able to get some good air soon. I didn't know that fibro affects your breathing. I learn something every day. Do you use an inhaler or nebulizer, or is this just something you learn to relax and breathe through until it passes?

Dear Insomniacs

I'm so sorry that you all seem to always be wide awake in the middle of the night while I sleep like baby. Smiling
No really I do feel for all of you and I would share my little drug cocktail with you all if it first weren't against the law and secondly I didn't need it myself. I think I'll stay up tonight just because the most interesting conversations around here happen in the middle of the night. I wake up and read the most interesting posts. Neck of Steel I am really sorry that you are having such pain. I've had to take sleep aids in the past because when I was a healthier person I suffered from insomnia. When they say make sure that you can devote 8 hrs to sleep or whatever it is then you do just that. I would take one at 11:00 pm and then wake up at 5:00 am with a pretty nasty headache. And it sounds like you already suffer from headaches. I just wanted you to know my own personal experience with them. But if you do as instructed and dedicate yourself to a full 8 hrs of sleep then they can be a real lifesaver. I hope for you all a more restful night tonight.

I was told that it's important to your sleep pattern to always get up at the same time every day (even weekends). That way you don't throw your body's circadian rhythm off and you can get a better quality of sleep.

Another little trick of the trade was that if you nap, to only do it in 30 minute increments. Say a 30 minute nap or an hour and 30 minute nap. Boy did I find this to be true! If I sleep 45 minutes or an hour, I feel like I can never get enough. If I sleep 30 minutes, I feel like I'm wide awake and ready to go.

Yes Iam here

I know I won't be able to sleep. I also was told by me surgeon that threre is nothing more he can do for me. I had an MRI done 2 weeks ago due to more pain and pain down my arms, it showed more herniated disc's and a bone spur on c5-6 flattening the left side of my cord. Well, I called my PC doctor(who is awesome) and she had me come right in because I was hysterical. She made an appt. with a NS for next week, she feels something needs done because of the pain I am in.Anyways, all this happened this afternoon so I should be good and screwed up by tomorrow morning, I've been crying all afternoon. sleeping better

Hi Jenny~
I'm so sorry that you are still struggling to sleep. Since I got my "sleep aids" I have been sleeping so much better. I'm still waking up during the night, but seem to be able to go back to sleep pretty easily. We had a cold front come in last night so I woke up rather early this morning in a huge amount of pain. I took some medicine and went back to bed. When the medicine finally kicked in I was able to go back to sleep. Of course with having fibro I feel tired anyway. Today I am just wanting to stay buried under the covers to stay warm and I just want to sleep all day. My little girl has a basketball game tonight so I will have to force myself out into the cold cruel weather! lol
I hope you get you some sleep Jenny. I'll check up on you later. Have a good weekend!
